I have watched and listen to the instructions to replace a flagpole halyard. I might say my compliments for this guy to instruct us how to do this. I have to replace some halyards on my flag poles so I was glad to get this instruction without lower the flagstaff to the ground. Like the way you explain this to us. The price for this halyard is selling by a spool and how many meters is that in such a spool. A flagstaff of 7 meters high I have to change. Whats is the price for such a spool of the halyard. I had bad experience with halyard I have bought which was made in China. After a month or 2, the cord get fadded and tears off in the hot sunny weather and this caused that the flags fall down the ground or blown off the flag pole during hard windy weather. Watching this nice presentation from Paramaribo - Suriname

Got any tricks for replacing the halyard when the old one broke and fell to the ground?
@gettysburgflag3 жыл бұрын
Unfortunately not. Sounds like maybe you need to start fresh which would require a lift or a brave climber.

There are some creative solutions out there. Check back and post here to find the best one. Solutions that I’ve seen involve golf ball retrievers, fishing rods, line and tackle weights.

I will attet this usally works really well, not always I have not fialed at the 10 or so I have done but have had to work for a couple. I usually try and come in over the top and have had to walk the rope away from the pole to get it to go over through the pulley frame after messing with it for a while and it not going over. You always get those moments where you consider this pulling out and then what to do....for me it would be rent a lift, I aint load testing a flag pole no sir.

What if there is no old rope?
@gettysburgflag3 жыл бұрын
Hi! Well, in that case you would actually need a lift or a very brave person to to climb a ladder to string the new halyard.

@kenstastny4285 please do! I am curious. Since I've gone up my sailing club's weather tower many times, I've been asked if I can replace a broken, now completely gone halyard on a flag pole. I don't know how to climb the pole, or if it will he strong enough to support me

Why not take the time and pride to demonstrate this process completely/correctly/professionally? Patrick has a strong voice and good screen presence but the content is sloppy and incomplete. 1. Include a lighter (or whatever rope-end singeing heat source) in the "What's Needed" intro. Also zip ties, if that's what you use to secure the ends in the knot tying process. 2. You don't need an extra pair of hands - there's a cleat directly in front of you to secure the rope. This job is easily done by one person. 3. Demonstrate singeing the rope ends. It's weak to claim it's too windy when there's a flag in the background barely moving. 4. Learn how to tie a double fisherman's knot/bend and demonstrate it properly. Completely butchered in this video - and, no, whatever knot was shown, it wasn't properly demonstrated and is not commonly used. The double fisherman's results in a compact & attractive barrel-shaped knot. 5. Clearly show where the knot sits relative to relative to the flag and clips when setting that up. 6. As a bonus, more care demonstrating how to raise the flag and secure the halyard to the cleat.
