did mine years ago without a lift and got a good spurt in my ear. gasoline in the ear is very (very) painful. you did good to tell people to relieve pressure. i thought i did but noticed the filter hoses were difficult to remove. this time i'll probably also hit the schrader valve to be sure it's purged. thank you

2:20 So, what should I do if I pulled that clip out and the line doesn't budge? Looks to me like your line just popped right off, so either I'm doing something wrong, or the line is rusted to the fuel filter, or something.

Awesome, simple enough for me to do,but on my rsnger,the accelerator pedal is down to the floor,so does thet mean thst it could be the fuel pump too

This is a great video. I have a Ford Ranger 1996. I spent 2 hours trying to disconnect the hose from the filter with the white tool. Pushed it forward till it clicked, pushed the hose forward, pulled and pulled, used two different sizes of white tool but could never get it to work.I couldn't get it off so I just reconnected everything. In the video it looks easy. Any ideas to make this easier?
@208autostate64 жыл бұрын
You could spray some "pb blaster or wd-40" into the slot the tool goes into. Also once you put the tool in place, pull the fuel filter towards the tool to ensure that the tool completely disconnects the tab that locks the fuel filter in place. Then twist and push the fuel filter off. They can be a pain sometimes but that usually does the trick.

So while doing this on my Ranger, I broke the clip that’s on the gas tank side, shown here at 1:55. Does anyone know what they’re called or where to get one?
@208autostate63 жыл бұрын
Fuel retaining clip, if you have an oreilly autoparts around, the part#800-003. Or another parts store should be able to cross reference it for you.

hey man, about to do this on my ranger. Is the fuel filter disconnect tool necessary to complete the process? what exactly is its purpose. nice vid btw very clear.
@208autostate64 жыл бұрын
There are probably ways to do it without the disconnect tool, but it makes it super easy. The tools are fairly inexpensive and well worth the money. The fuel line connections have pins inside it that depress. They are angled into the fuel line and after it gets past the lip on the fuel filter the depressed pins expand and it holds the fuel filter into place. The tool is about the same size around as the lip on the fuel filter, depressing the locking mechanism inside the fuel line and allowing it to come off.

Should my fuel tank be close to (E) before I do this?
@208autostate63 жыл бұрын
William donovan, No the fuel take does not need to be empty, if its empty thats fine. If its full thats fine as well. Just have the vehicle running and pull the fuel pump relay. The fuel pump will not push anymore fuel through the fuel line. There will still be residual fuel in the line however. Id recommend having the front of the vehicle a little higher so residual fuel (minor amount) will run downhill towards the tank. Some vehicles will not allow any fuel past the fuel pump and some will. To be safe. Have the front a little higher than the rear and be mindfull that a small ampunt of fuel will still be left in the fuel line and filter. Good luck!
