How to replace a fuel pump on a 1st gen Honda CR-V

We replace the fuel pump only (not the entire assembly) with a high quality OEM Denso pump.

I broke down on a drive thru, some random guy said it sounded like a fuel pump issue when I tried to start my car it would choke up and die . Your video helped me replace it in the middle of a parking lot and I was happy to be able to drive home.

I used a Denso on my CRV as well. Works fine but the original O ring on the tank began to leak. It was an easy fix but it was no fun waiting a week for the ring to arrive. Thanks for the videos.

I know what you mean about the O-ring. The Honda dealership told me the O-ring was discontinued and the largest Advanced Auto in my state said they couldn't even order one, I finally found it somewhere online but had to wait like you ... When I finally opened it up for the repair, I found the O-ring that was on it was new. The previous owner must have had it changed when they installed the cheap Chinese pump. Now I have a spare o-ring that I'll probably never use!... Thanks for the comment, MyBrotherScout!

If you haven’t already, check your fuel pump relay first. It’s cheaper and more likely to fail. I have another video on that somewhere. I think it’s called crv stalling/no start fix. It starts with changing the alternator- which wasn’t the problem. Then I find the cracked solder in the fuel pump relay. Hondas are notorious for this.

Using a Denso replacement pump is the way to go. A cheap made in China pump will only cause problems down the road (no pun intended).

Totally agree La Marc. In fact, I think the pump I removed was a relatively new Chinese pump the previous owner put on, and not OEM. Thanks for the comment!
