How to remove a spigot
By the way, we'll be showing you also how to replace the old gate valve with a newer more modern 1/4 turn ball valve. These types of hose bibbs are much more reliable than standard gate valve hose bibs. So, you need a hose bib repair, and you realize it is time to replace that old hose faucet and perform a full hose bib replacement. So, if you want to know how to remove a hose bib, this video will show you how to remove a spigot in preparation for installing a hose bib.
This is a big problem for people buying a house and the home inspector finds the damaged hose bibb. This can be a major problem for people if they can't operate their hose an d water their garden; they don't know how to solder a hose bib to replace the old hose bib.
How to install hose bib
Your first task is with installing a hose bib to remove the hose spigot from the copper pipe. If you have sweat on/solder on hose spigot, you must use a torch to heat up the old hose bibb until the solder melts and you can use the pliers to remove the hose bib from the copper pipe. And that is how to remove a hose spigot from the copper pipe. Once that old hose faucet is off the pipe, it’s time to prep the new parts for the hose bib installation.
How to solder a hose bib
We’ll also show you the proper way to solder hose bib assemblies onto the copper pipe as part of your project to replace hose bibs. This is How to replace a hose bib with minimal effort. When you replace hose spigot valves, you must sand down the copper pipe, and clean the inside of the hose bib opening where it connects onto the copper pipe. Now we move on to how to install hose bibbs.
Around these parts, we don't fix hose bibs, we replace hose bibs.
Replace water hose spigot
Next, you replace garden hose spigot with the new hose spigot. So, first replace hose bib. Here you’ll learn how to solder hose bib valves on the main water pipe coming out of the wall as you replace spigot. Soldering hose bib is the method we use to attach the hose bib to the copper pipes. That is how to install hose spigot valves onto copper pipes.
After you replace garden hose spigot
Now you know how to remove a spigot, and how to install hose spigot, and then how to solder hose bib onto the copper pipe. Now you can help your friends with installing a hose bib. This is hose bib installation made easy, and you'll be bale to show them all about soldering hose bib. Good luck with your hose bib replacement.

I do a lot of my own repairs at home. Widowed and no kids to help, so I get a lot of jobs to do that I've never done before. Thank you for this video. I have a 'quarter turn' type outdoor faucet. Today it was leaking so badly I could fill an outdoor rain barrel in about an hour and a half! That's a bad leak! I was hoping to find information on how to replace my type of faucet, and only saw older type faucet videos, until I found yours! Yeah!!! I'll be working on my faucet in the morning, and I won't need to do any soldering, but only replace the quarter turn portion on mine. Since I had never done this before, I wanted to be sure I found a video that gave me all the information I needed to do it right. Thanks so much! I subscribed as I have to do repairs on all sorts of things from time to time, and it helps to know where to go to find the information. I may even change out my other faucets as the house is 35 years old and I imagine the faucets could use some attention after all this time. One question -- Do you have videos on determining if a faucet is leaking behind a wall? I am not sure if I have an issue, only that the water sounds really strong in my kitchen when I turn the faucet on outside. NO signs of water, but I get concerned that there may be a leak and I can't see it. I'd love to see a video on determine the location of a leak of this kind. Thanks again!!😌

@@jeffostroff I did, and still can't find the answer to my question though. I have screwed on a 2 way to my spigot and cannot get it off the threads. I own a brick house, and that hose bibb/spigot type has the back of the spigot IN THE mortar. I haven't called a plumber yet as was researching what to do. Is best way to know to send photos to a plumber? I wish I could know how to get that 2 way thingy uncrewed from the spigot but another neighbor made it worse when he forced it even more righty tighty!
@jeffostroff
@jeffostroff Жыл бұрын
@BarleyHops The 1st thing I would try is a pair of channel lock pliers because they can Clamp down onto the hose nut That is Stuck on that thread. And somebody with enough strength should be able to loosen that. If that doesn't work you can try applying heat by putting a torch on it for just a few seconds and see if there's any expansion that. Then after That I would try PB Blaster Which is A penetrating lubricant. WD40 will not work here because it is not a lubricant although many people think that it is. If that fails then you can get a Dremel and try to gently slice off the hose nut just cut a couple of slits into it enough that you can pry off the rest of it and get it off of the threads without cutting all the way through to the threads. It's all of Those efforts fail to produce the desired outcome, then you will have to bring in a plumber And you Me end up having to chisel into the wall.

@jeffostroff
@jeffostroff 3 жыл бұрын
If the pipe is just sliding in and out of a hole in the wall, then after you solder on the new spigot, just get a tube of PL Adhesive 3X on the paint aisle, and fill in the gap all the way around the air gaps in there the pipe comes through the wall, then by next day when it cures hard, it won't move at all.

One major issue with this vid and that is it's rarely that easy to take the spigot off of that copper pipe. In fact it's usually HELL! Can you imagine a spigot being on a copper tube for 10, 20, 30 plus years. You bet - it's practically fused together and many times almost impossible. This vid seems like the best case scenario and it's not realistic. Taking that spigot off, if it's been on there a long time, is HELL to get off. Overall a very good instructional video,

Hey my dad and are tryimg to remove a soldered hose bib but steam is coming out of the spigot and the seal does not seem to losen. We already tried vacuuming out the water for 2-10 minutes. How long should we keep the shop vac on to completely drain it?
@jeffostroff
@jeffostroff 3 жыл бұрын
If the water is still running when you stop vacuuming, you'll have to try to open up some faucets, find a lower spot in the house where there is another valve. But if that does not help try shutting off the water at the curb, or try the bread trick, which we cover in this video here: kzbin.info/www/bejne/rXvbeJamrsd5rNk

We cut off the water main by the street, because the house main shutoff was still allowing water to leak. Typical cheap garbage valves that builders were using in 1993.

Interesting you chose a female threaded hose bibb and male adapter. Most hose bibbs I've seen are male threaded like the old one you removed. Either work, I just find it more common to find male threaded hose bibbs.

Sometimes they are 1" sometimes 3/4". I believe that normally your main water line coming into your house is 1 inch and sometimes they will step that down to a three quarter inch connection for your hose bib, and sometimes they don't
