LOL, loved the intro! Matches my scenario, where I purchased "one of those cars" that has proprietary plastic parts in their window regulators to move the window up and down under power. I used this as my goal part to learn FreeCAD, having only done some simple loft and hole designs prior. Hours and 5 test prints later (2 full, 3 partial), I had a working part with a 3D space curved boolean cut and complex internal geometry for the cabling system and attachment to the glass. I now have a model I can mirror for any door as well as the knowledge of how to do such a design MUCH faster in the future!

Great tutorial! I have to say I've stopped using stls, and have opted for the 3mf format. Much smaller files, and I think there were some other benefits as well.

pro tip: if you're using PrusaSlicer you can import the STEP file directly, no need to create a mesh

If you are exporting a file from the tool you use to make it, then the extension of the file doesn't really matter.

Another great video how to use the full potential of the linkstage freeCad. When it's on me to rebuild a part, I wonder if there is a a way to measure directly based on the image. Maybe by converting it into a svg draft and set measurement points? The last thing I rebuild was a chain protector disc (to save the trousers) for an older di blasi folding bicycle.

Why do you export it as mesh? You can just select the body and go to File->Export
@fluxx12 жыл бұрын
If you just export from the solid, the defaults for surface deviation/angular accuracy will be used. This way you can control it individually. But most of the time, I find defaults are good enough and I don't bother with creating a mesh manually.

Also very simple to use macro Export2Slicer for send model to slicer by one click.
