Honestly, this IS the best video on how to replace a water filter in a Kenmore fridge. Verbally, he rolls out his information in a clear and concise manner and also calls attention to points that will save you time and frustration; visually, he demonstrates what he is talking about. The most productive 3:58 minutes I've ever spent on a KZbin 'how to' video!

This is the absolute best video on how to change a Kenmore refrigerator filter. You shared 2 vastly important tips: 1) Shine a light to see how the filter should be aligned, and 2) Make sure the whoosh sound is heard, which indicates the new filter has gone in properly.

Glad you suggested looking in the refrigerator "hole" and hearing the sound once the filter is installed. Now I know for sure the orientation is right and that the filter was pushed in far enough. (My old filter had an arrow that we didn't pay attention to. When we pulled out the old one, there were no water droplets, so we weren't sure if the old one was ever installed correctly.)

I have a slightly older Kenmore where you have to "pull out" on the knob instead of "pushing in" for the filter to release. After about 15 seconds of trying to push in, decided to try pulling it out and that worked. It was my first time replacing and went much smoother than anticipated. Very helpful video....thanks,man

Thanks. I had the same problem. Nothing was happening, when I "pushed in" the knob. After the knob was "pulled out", the old filter released. We bought our fridge in 2012, also an older model. I didn't hear any sort of "sound" after inserting the new filter... I was just wondering, if just the newer models make the sound...???

Thank you for this video! I am so glad you pointed out that it makes a sound when the filter is inserted correctly. The bad news for me is that my last five filters were inserted incorrectly, so I guess my last year-and-a-half of water has not actually been filtered and I've thrown away $250 worth of unused filters. Oh, gosh. Feel free to judge my lack of appliance knowledge.

I’m glad I was able to help. Also, make sure to flush the filter by dispensing about 10 full cups of water to make sure it’s clean.

Does anyone know how important the gray cap thing is? The one that goes on the end of the filter that is removed from old filter n put on new filter??? I guess its disappeared thru the yrs... so I'm not sure if my filter evrn works w/o it

@@fazedevin2687 The gray cap isn't important. It's simply to be used as a handle so you can remove and put in filters. It won't affect the water filtration in any way.

Thanks so much for this. I had no instructions for the fridge and obviously had not put the previous filter in correctly. Your video showed me what was wrong and what I needed to do. I was able to remove the old filter and install the new one.

The Kenmore (460)9030 is replaced by the Kenmore (460)9083. Get the 9083 from Sears in the kitchen appliance section, where Kenmore refrigerators are sold.

I've been struggling with mine, trying to get it to make a whooosh sound, but no matter how many times I put it in, no sound comes out. Last time I changed the filter, the sound did come. 😢

You can if you want, but the moment you insert it water is already running through the filter. That's why you hear that water sound when I inserted it. You can fill a full cup with water and then dump it to recirculate the system.

my fridge uses this same filter. With out it installed it passes water thru. With the filter installed the flow is greatly restricted. How so? How can water go thru with no filter? Then with the filter it won't flow more than a thimble full a minute? This makes no sense to me at all.

If you dont gave the filter cap does that make a difference?

Patty M If you’re missing the filter cap then it might be harder for you to remove/install the filter and risk water leaking. The filter cap also secures the filter and snaps in place after pushing it back in. You should be able to buy a replacement cap on eBay or Amazon by typing in your refrigerator’s model number and they should cost around $5-$20.

@@niclacoste Ok thank you! I just put a filter in that's a different brand than Kenmore also with no cap lol so I didn't hear the swish sound so I'm guessing the cap definitely would make a difference because its probably not sensing the filter.

Patty M It probably wasn’t pushed in all the way so it didn’t make the sound. The machine makes a swoosh sound when the tip of the filter makes contact with the nozzle inside. I’m just afraid that without a cap to secure it and even if you push the filter until it makes contact that it might come loose causing water to leak when you dispense water.
