HOW TO REPLACE A LASER TUBE ON EPILOG FUSION EDGE

Replacing a laser tube isn't something that you should have to do often. If you do find yourself having to replace it, you want to make sure that you align your mirrors afterward. This video walks through how to replace a laser tube on the Epilog Fusion Edge, but this process is similar to many other machines.

I’m calling the request line for a video. Can you produce one on the Epilog camera registration? It’s a great feature that doesn’t get a lot of attention. If done correctly, can prove to be an essential tool in production workflow. Not to mention, it’s saved our butts a few times when we tapped the substrate during during inspection…and you know what that means.

Do you mean the normal overhead camera or the registration dot version that reads design dots?

@@MakerExperiment Hey Trevor. Yes, I'm referring to the latter. Camera Registration Marks for reading "design dots" . You'll see the configurable fields in the Job Manager. Very, very, useful tool.

Thank you for this verification. Still learning. I engraved some cork and cut coasters. I had the settings incorrect so there was several passes & some smoke. Basically burned through the cork. I turned my air up a little to dissipate the smoke quicker. I don't know if this was right or wrong thing to do. I have done little more than experiment with different mediums on my Edge. I have cleaned the tray, bed, mirrors and all other visible parts. Should I need to remove the back and clean the CO2 vents with an air hose after this job?

You shouldn’t have to worry too much about that. Most of the job exhaust will go through the exhaust areas and not to the tube itself.

It’s pretty similar. There may be some minor differences but the general steps should be similar.

Unlike my Mimaki which is runs out of ink, laser cutters don’t have that specific perishable/variable to contend with. Still though, I’m wondering how often we need to replace the tubes on the Fusion Edge/Pro series…and how would you know it’s time? Tubes don’t have usage metered.

When it comes to lasers, the tube is basically a lasers version of ink. It will go out eventually. When you start to see degradations in power or performance such as having to slow a machine 5% in speed to do something you used to be able to do and if the mirrors and everything are aligned, it could be a sign that your tube is starting to go. It typically doesn’t happen all at once but will be a slow degradation over time.

Can we install in epilog lasser simple glass tube??

I wouldn’t recommend it. They aren’t meant to work with a glass tube because it cannot operate the same way as an RF tube.

Did you upgrade to a higher wattage tube, or did your tube go bad already?

I didn’t actually replace it. I used the same tube to demonstrate. This video was done for a training video.

You can buy them from Epilog directly. You'll need to call their HQ.

May I ask how much did you pay to exchange your tube?

I didn’t. They actually sent me the tube to do the video. I forget how much the replacements are. I think they’re around $1,300 or so.
