In this video I go over how to replace a propeller on a Yamaha F series engine, in this case an F70. Perhaps, just as important, is why I am changing the Propeller. The F70 came with a Solas Saturn SS prop in 13.5x15. This prop was probably fine on the boat it cam off of (a shallower V aluminum side console) but it would only get up to 5200 RPM and 32 MPH. Some research revealed that the "perfect" prop for a classic Boston Whaler Montauk 17 matched with a Yamaha F70LA is a Yamaha Performance Series 3-Blade in 13-1/4" x 14", Part# MAR-GYT3B-V4-14.
However, this is expensive, so following my nature I researched and although at first I could not find a inexpensive prop in that size, I eventually found the The PowerTech Red 3 in the same exact size and in Stainless Steel. Better yet, I found a dealer with free shipping who had the best price of anywhere carrying that prop. So I ordered it and put it on in this video. Hopefully, I'll get the performance gains I would get with the recommended Yamaha Prop. I'll put up a video on the results later after I take it out for a test run.
Here's a link to the dealer and prop I am testing out.

Thank you for this video. Your video on this topic is the only one that shows how each part is reinstalled and how it works with the other parts. Thank you. 😊

There's pros and cons to steel props. As a general rule, most people (and myself) prefer using a SS prop for performance reasons.

Sorry but I don't. I barely have enough time to work on my own stuff. If it weren't for my son helping out, I would never get anything done!

Gday mate that is the biggest reason for chewing out seals i know is fishing line pays to check your prop a few times a year saves having to go through the drama of getting old seals out and putting new ones in and that was a lot of line . Grease grease grease can never have to much for protection should get a good price if you sell the solas being stainless another thing to watch out for is plastic bags cover your intake and stop the cooling water .

Gday to you! I Always look forward to your comments. Took it out for a spin yesterday and we were absolutely pleased with the results. At WOT and fully trimmed I was getting just shy of 6k rpm and a hair higher than 35 mph. Although not the same expectations as the Yamaha prop it was pretty close. Oh and that prop has some traction. Putting it into gear and even giving it a few rpms the boat fairly leapt forward. I'll have a video on that next week. Checked the lower unit fluid and it was clean. Hopefully the seal is not damaged. I'm guessing the fishing line compromised the seal when spinning but hopefully did not permanent damage. I never thought about plastic bags blocking the water intake, SOmething else to worry about! Cheers, Jose

I was out fishing with my father one time and on the way back in saw a white thing in the sea so went over and sure enough a plastic bag below the surface if it wraps around your lower leg and your alarm doesnt go off you may cook your engine @@ExtremeDIYGuy

Grocery bags, the bane of the ocean! I'm a scuba diver as well so know that they can also harm or kill sea turtles!
