Love your method. I did one in a white cabinet, using a white laminated panel. Tricky to avoid chipping. Then along the front I used the white vinyl tape to clean up the edge. I really like your 2 panel method.

I inspected a property today for a move-out. When I was looking under the kitchen sink I saw a round white plastic thing in the back and didn't know what it was. I picked it up to examine it and there was labeling on it saying that it was a "flooding sensor". Had a nice little laugh and it made me think of this awesome video.

That's pretty interesting! I assume it's battery operated and just lets out an alarm if it gets wet? Sounds like something that could be upsold to the property managers.

Great information, the one thing I would point out is doing these with the plumbing in, which is kinda similar to how you do it, but can get tricky due to the plumbing not allowing you to manuver the wooden pieces so easily. But I like how you use the router to take out a portion and allow for a lip to help hold the new base.

Every handyman does it a little different and every cabinet is in different condition. There is no wrong or right way as long as the job is done right and looks good to the client. With that being said if a cabinet looked like that I would not have cut it out. I'd get a sheet of 4x8 Revolution Ply from Lowe's for $20. It's very thin a 5 MM and 1 side has a vinyl and looks really good and doesn't stick up. I also wouldn't seal the bottom. I'd rather the bottom get water damage than the sides or back since the bottom is a lot easier/cheaper to fix. Again we all do things different and just trying to help each other

Thanks for creating this video. I have to follow up with the woman who wants me to do this. I had watched another video where a guy had cut the board where the supply and drain lines are coming through. He marked the wood and drilled the holes for those and then cut through the middle of the holes so it would match up perfectly. He put blocking underneath it to secure it. Sorry you had to go and buy a cabinet to create this video, but appreciate you doing it.

Nice system and job. I assume you wouldn't cut the piece in half if it didn't have a center stile divider since 1/2 birth is plenty strong, so you did it for demonstration purposes. Only thing I'd probably add is some small pieces to shim the back so its not level to force the water forward like the pipes that need 1/8 to 1/4 slope, otherwise if its level the water will spread evenly and just stand instead of running down forward to be visible as soon as the leak occurs.
@bulletproofhandyman
@bulletproofhandyman Ай бұрын
Yes, that was for demonstration purposes only. I used a cabinet without a center stile just to make the video more clear.

For this particular cabinet (no center vertical obstruction where the doors meet) you could've fit the plywood in as a full piece (not 2 halves), right?
@bulletproofhandyman

Yes, I was using a cabinet with no stile to demonstrate my process for a cabinet does. It is the 2 piece process but easier for you to see without a piece of wood in the way.

I know right! I've been promising this video forever but I just haven't gotten any sync bottom replacements in quite a while. Sometimes your clients figure out that you have a particular skill so they have you go fix all of the houses that have that particular issue and you get really good at it and then you get all the houses fixed and there just aren't any more to work on until somebody new has their sink leaking again. Ultimately, I finally just had to decide to go buy a used cabinet so I could make the video.

I like your content. 👍. I do these like doing a drywall patch., Cut a sq. piece of 1/2” plywood that’s 2” larger than the rotted part. Then lay that over the rotted part and trace it. Cut that out, add backing on at least 2, or all sides that were just cut. secure with screws, and screw in the patch piece. At this point, you could putty & paint, as you did, or, install a new piece of 1/4” or 3/8” over top of it all, using spray glue and pin nails. Paint is optional. Another option I just thought of, would be, patch as stated above, and spray glue 1/16” PVC sheeting on top, and caulk edges. Its waterproof, flexible, and durable. Havent done the pvc yet, but I will for the next one. I think its flexible enough to bend to install it where there is a style. GOing to try the PVC sheet when this comes up in the future.

Quick tip when measuring cabinets. Some cabinet makers make their measurements in millimeters (even in the US!) having a tape with mm has helped me a bunch when it comes to cabinet work

I'm comfortable with both systems. I've worked at a few of those cabinet shops in the US that use metric. I think metric is clearly a better choice, but I already have a lifetime using both so I don't give much thought to it.

Do you ever give them a slight tilt to the front for water exiting out the front? I love the porch paint idea!!! What do you do when the plumbing comes through the floor?
@bulletproofhandyman
@bulletproofhandyman Ай бұрын
I have not bothered tilting them to the front. I'm sure it wouldn't hurt. The best way to deal with plumbing coming through the floor is to remove the shut off valves and drill holes and then cover the holes with those little round snap-on covers that go around the pipe. I get that question a lot, but I almost never see that here in Tucson. It must be a regional thing. It's not that I've never seen it, but it isn't very common.

@bulletproofhandyman here in Kansas we have basements and cold walls in the winter so a lot of the plumbing is kept on inside walls and brought up through the floor. Royal pain in the butt working with plumbing holes. Plus water ends up under cabinet. Ugh.

I do have some questions. You painted the sides of the wood and later caulked the holes ans seam and then painted everything and you reckon 30 minutes from start to finish. That's quick drying paint and caulk.
@bulletproofhandyman
@bulletproofhandyman Ай бұрын
The cement and deck paint that I use dries very quickly, less than 5 minutes to be ready for another coat. The caulk is ready for paint almost immediately if you have a light touch. Maybe 5 minutes for that as well.

@bulletproofhandyman
@bulletproofhandyman Ай бұрын
That's the funny part. I do that and I fix the problem. Then another new problem pops up. In the beginning it was just cheap equipment so I bought better equipment. Then it turned out my better equipment produced better audio but it wasn't in sync. So my new problem was editing and lining up the audio sync. Eventually it became clear that my new equipment was also still not as good as it should be. So I upgraded the equipment. That came with new software and I had software issues As it pertains to the audio. Finally, I borrowed a very nice Sennheiser wireless set but that eventually had to be returned. Now I have the new Rode setup which was doing a really great job until yesterday. Oh yeah, I also experienced some syncing and editing issues That turned out to be caused by wearing wireless earbuds while I was editing. Anyways, I'll eventually get to the point where I'm just using a good Sennheiser wireless setup now that I'm decent at the editing part. In the meantime, it's just more of a running inside joke between me and the universe where the universe provides me with a successful KZbin channel, but the price I have to pay is that it will throw every audio issue in the book at me so that I can't ever quite reach the point where I just feel confident about my audio all the time. I never really have any video issues! Just audio!
@soundman6645
@soundman6645 Ай бұрын
@@bulletproofhandyman yeh the problem is probably not the quality of the equipment as such. as far as wireess anything. avoid wireless as much as possible, put your faith in solid copper. . yes somtimes we need wireless. . i think you may find that one wireless device is interfering with another. . one of the problems with the non specialist wireless brands, like Rode, is that they run bluetooh between the pack and the reciever. . the better wireless brands run straight FM signal between the pack and the reciever, much longer range, cleaner audio and less "other issues" . All sorts of digital equipment especially phones radiates energy that can interfeer with audio. . keep all other digital gear away from your audio
