Great quality, I can see what you're doing, the elevator music was an odd liberty to take but it works.

Thanks for watching Tyler! It was fair use music. Back when this video was made it was tricky to find music that wouldn't get claimed.

Watching this today because a piece of my serpentine belt broke off and was flapping around in the engine bay and gave me a heart attack but I feel better knowing it's quite a simple replacement

Ve really gotta use a long handled ratchet or a breaker bar and socket, and if the socket is too short, the shortest extension, I think it’s a 1”. I did this over and over form above and you had to lay the belt just off the power steering pump up top for slack, but fit it to everything down where the tensioner is, and all but the highest pulley. Then move the tensioner for slack, which will be just enough, and you’re in. That idler pulley was the problem child. The tensioner could be malfunctioning and you’d barely notice, since at idle it see fine, but when the engine revs up to around 1800 or more, the belt flaps because the tension has lost its ability to hold the specified tension, and the idler pulley bolt mounting boss on the block takes a beating. It’s very difficult and takes some luck to come up with a way to keep that bolt tight and the pulley happy. The longest it went with double nuts on the tighten side, and an extra nut on the inside, after finding another bolt just a bit longer, like 3/4”, and using JB Weld to stabilize it all. That lasted almost a year. There’s not a place to mount a different DIY bracket to hold that idler pulley better either. What should be the most simple repair can turn out to necessitate a new engine block. There’s not enough meat on that boss, or ear of the block that is supposed to handle the load of that belt and that tension. Thanks Ford.

Would be nice to know what size wrench/sockets were used in the video aswell
@cppower144 жыл бұрын
It should be a 13mm, a long wrench works better but a basic wrench will do fine also.

Seriously. Useless video without knowing the size of the tools

My 2005 Focus, which I am currently laying underneath, is 10mm for the plastic cover, and 15mm I believe for the tensioner. I had to use a 5/8th because somebody told me I needed a 13mm and I didn’t get the right tool

Ahh, smooth pulley last. I'm going to try that right now.

Could you tell me what particular belt you are using or the size of the belt? I'm trying to replace the belt for the 2.0 ZX4.

Just tell the sales person of your local car parts shop what car/engine you have. Don't buy a generic belt of ebay.

How tight does the belt have to be? Or does it automatically tighten by itself?

Hi 2CarsPros, I have Ford focus 2009 but non of my cooling fans is working at the start of the car until the car hot. I expect the radiator fan to start working as soon as i start the car. Am i correct? thank you
@2carpros7 жыл бұрын
Radiator fans especially on newer cars like yours can have quite the delay. They basically turn on only when the car needs them on. Thank you for watching!

If my belt seems to be squeaky once a year can the belt be worn that quickly or could my tensioner be going bad? How can I prevent the squeaking?
@2carpros3 жыл бұрын
Yeah it very well could be the tensioner. I'd listen closely for it and replace it. Thanks for watching!

There was white smoke coming from the belt area after a jump one day(06 focus has never hand any such issues)...ever since even with a new battery...there is still white smoke coming. What do you think is the issue in your professional experience?

My 2007 Focus doesn't have a serpentine belt cover. I'm not sure if it ever had one or what happened to it. How important is the cover? Does it help keep the belt in place or just prevent things from jumping into the belt?

It isn't super important. Thank you for watching!

@jw18xxx5 жыл бұрын
Oh yeah it only keeps 25% of debris and rocks that become airborne and easily trapped in accessory drive belts. Pretty useless if you intend on doing these replacements more often. I'll agree not by much but enough for me to spend 2 minutes removing and replacing it after each service. It's not an engine cover and feel all splash guards are useful but annoying and underenginered for low cost

I've been told that you need to know the diameter of the AC pulley to get the proper belt.

My tensioner is stuck in the loose position. The belt is in and is tight…is there a way I can get it to release back to normal? Anybody come across a seized tensioner in this position before? The tensioner is new as well
@roberttophan93147 жыл бұрын
my 07 focus was squeaking then it sounded like a belt snapped the battery light came on does that mean it's a serpentine belt?no power steering.
@2carpros7 жыл бұрын
Yep that sounds exactly like a belt. If you drive your focus around with out the belt the charging system isn't working so eventually the battery will go flat and leave you stranded. Thank you for watching!
