I wished I would've seen this video earlier. I had this exact thing happen. That 15 minute video on replacing the filter turned into a 5 hour job. But I finally got it out and replaced. Now, just attempted replacing a different shower faucet with trying to use a flathead screwdriver and the same thing happened. But I was able to get it back together until i have the time to spend on it. Thanks for the video. I'll be more informed going into this one

A trick I used, once I exposed the metal tube, I pulled off one of the rubber rings. I then put a zip tie around the metal tube in the empty channel the ring was in. Pulling on the zip tie freed the cartridge.

Thank you for making this video! I thought it was straight forward and easy to follow. Of all the videos I looked at, you are the only one to mention putting the ring back on, so the opening doesn't get bent/damaged. I also wasn't freaked out when the cartridge came out in pieces. It did take me two hours using screwdrivers, pliers, a hammer, and finally my drill! My persistence paid off- the new cartridge is installed! I now need to take a shower after all that!

Hey man I suggest that you dont pull the cartridge out like that with a wrench. Instead take a flat head screw driver and pry it open from the sides while gently pulling the cartridge. Comes out easy. Keep up the great work!

Thanks for the tip! It worked perfectly for me. A chunk did fly off, but I was able to loosen and move it up enough to easily pull it off.

To extract the whole cartridge, make sure not to twist the part that is sticking out in the anti-clockwise direction, as that will cause the 2 parts to separate. Twist the cartridge clockwise a bit to break any hardwater holding the inner part, and use something to pry the cartridge out. I just removed a 20 year old cartridge for the Delta Monitor 1400 series faucet in one piece.

Thanks so much for your video. I’ve done 2 of these now. Getting better at it. Onlrñy 1 of 3 of these cartridges has come out in 1 piece. The other 2 I had to chisel.

Almost started to chisel mine out but it just didn’t seem like a great idea. I sprayed WD 40 behind the cartridge a lot, then grabbed the cartridge and pulled with slight twisting motion until I heard the seal break. Then it came right on out. Just like a jar of pickles, if there’s a seal ( which is supposed to be) it’ll be hard to come out. Move it around until the seal is broken and it pulls right on out.

I don't know and don't care if some decades-older plumber could have gotten the cartridge out intact... I needed to see a video where things went wrong the same way that they did for me, and it was validating to see the same chiselling that I resorted to used. Although my case ended up being much harder than this seemed to be. But my leak is fixed!

My piece was all stuck in mineral residue. Instead of chiseling the stuck lower part into pieces, I screwed a screw into it, and was able to pull it out with pliers.

This totally WORKED along with the chiseling. I used a drill to screw in the screw and used pliers to pull as you suggested and boom within seconds the piece came out. THANK YOU!!!

put a 2-3 inch screw through the plastic and use a hammer or pry bar, has saved me several times

If you turn the water back on for a second without the ring, the water pressure should be enough to push the cartridge out.

Hotel maintenance I have the luxury of 40 new valve body's if I can't pop it out in 5 minutes I'll cut and sweat in all new in 20 min with new cartridge greased up before I spend all day breaking it out learned the hard way

HELP! I was able to get broken pieces out and replace with Delhi felt cart but water stays running in bottom faucet with cart valve turned OFF to the right. And it’s flush. Orings are all in place.

I had to do that last night, it was hell, there must be a puller of some kind for this. I made my own puller out of scrap wood pieces and a screw, it was still hell though.

Thanks for making this, but I don't think it's simply turning the nut that warps it so much. I think it's the fact that it's a plastic assembly attached to a metal handle and people are way too rough with it. If you end up having to replace your cartridge too much and it gets stuck, try being gentler with the handle, especially not cranking it farther than it wants to go. If the water isn't hot enough, you have to adjust the cartridge, not warp it to bits.

Spray it with PB Blaster and it will come right out. No need to chisel the thing out.

Cartridge WILL come out just takes time.. wiggle pull, wiggle pull and use a thin straight edge screw driver between plastic part of cartridge and metal and pry softly and you wiggel and pull... takes time 15 plus mins but it will come out.

So, on my Delta RP46074 cartridge with gray cap, I was able to pull out/separate the cartridge about 1/8 of an inch. I then rotated the gray cap counter clockwise and removed it, thus exposing the seats (spring and black cup washer) for the mixer. I simply changed the seats, reinstalled and what do you know....no drips. $8 vs $65 for a new cartridge. It's not rocket science.
