That wiring harness at the rear is a royal bitch since it prevents the valve cover removal. At 5:55 you omitted how you completely removed the plastic harness cover which is difficult to reach and also taped into the large main harness. That would have been valuable to see as it is the most difficult part of the entire job.

Totally agree fighting with that harness in the back as we speak

remove that plastic harness retainer and throw it as far as you can - then just tape up the wiring really well with some good electrical tape and all is good! It will look factory - That plastic thing probably made it easier at the Toledo plant...

Big thing I don't believe you guys mentioned, before you put in the new gasket and put everything back together, you HAVE to thoroughly clean the bottom edge of the valve cover, and the mating surface on the cylinder head. You want smooth, clean surfaces before the new gasket goes in. If you skip the cleaning, and leave a ridge of baked oil on your mating surfaces, odds are pretty steep that you're going to do this job again.

This video was great! Made it a lot easier. I had to take off a ground wire bolt but otherwise everything matched. One of my pin rods didn't really want to spin. Not sure if that is an issue.

Great video. Appreciate you taking the time to do it. Very helpful. Just some additional info. For anyone doing this job, just know that if you have the plastic wire harness protector attached directly to the lifter cover in the very rear next to the firewall, you MUST take that off BEFORE you attempt to remove the valve cover. You cannot skip this step. It is very difficult to wrangle with because the harness is routed so tightly along the firewall without much slack allowing to move it around with the black plastic attached to the harness. Once you get that off, which is a challenge, the valve cover comes off much easier because you can now push the wire harness cluster down out of the way. It's NOT easy, but easier. To remove this black harness cover, use a small pic tool at all four connection points, on both sides of the connector. A screw driver just won't work. Take your time with it and you'll get it off, but man it is a PIA to remove. I'm no beginner and can hold my own with car repairs and DIY garage stuff. This one kicked my butt. However, had I done a bit more research on this work and known all the details of what I'm posting here before I started, it wouldn't have taken me so long to get the valve cover off.

Wish I would have seen this video and comment before I took mine off today. That was a pain to get off but I did get out. It got too late so tomorrow I will take that cover off before installing the new one.

How did you get to the back bolts?? By fire wall
@TJsVette Жыл бұрын
It's a pain in the butt but it can be done. I use a deep well 7/16 along with a 3 inch extender and was able to get the bolt broken free.

I just did mine. It’s an 02. The 12mm was the wrong size. I ended up using a 7/16. I don’t really understand that though, everything else on this thing is metric.

How many foot pounds does it take to snug them up?
