Instead of cutting the ferrule or copper pipe , use a Ferrule Puller to remove the compression ring .

Thanks for the post. I replaced my kitchen faucet and reused the copper feeder lines which are failing at the connections. Replacing them with good old braided steel line. Keep the garbage vinyl and pex. However before i can replace the cold side feeder line i need to put in a new shut off bc it also feeds the water to the ice maker which is connected to the copper via a saddle valve. You CANNOT put a saddle valve on braided or vinyl. Thats why i need a compression shut off with a 3/8 faucet line and a 1/4 ice maker line in one shut off. Make sense?🤣😂😂. Anyway i just needed to see what to do for the compression shut off. Thanks

Question - what size copper pipe is that? I have been changing my valves and I am getting the same exact size valves you have and they are all fitting loose. I got sharkbites and those do work but why they be lose? Same size valve as the one I removed and the ones removed definitely were not loose. I cannot figure it out.
@Housebarons3 ай бұрын
That is 1/2 inch copper pipe. The shark bites are made to spin around the pipe but made to resist pulling off - they do not slide off easily. When you turn the water on, go slow and look for leaks. Leaks mean -do it over. Thx for watching!

what happens if the pipe is broken? Mine broke just minutes ago and it doesn’t stick out like in the video. Do you have any tips on what I can do or do I have to replace the pipe by calling a plumber?
@Housebarons11 ай бұрын
You can diy a pipe replacement… depends on how handy you are. KZbin videos are very helpful. But If that is not in your wheel house - then handyman or plumber. Thx for watching!

Before you go to the last resort of replacing the valve you can try tightening the packing nut first. Quite honestly this might have solved this persons problem.

When should copper pipes be completely replaced?
@Housebarons7 ай бұрын
Copper lasts a very long time. They are also simple to repair. The only time we’ve replaced all copper pipes was when we purchased a house from a bank that didn’t winterize it. So the water in the pipes froze & split the pipes in multiple locations. We were chasing endless leaks inside walls. It might be worth replacing a small section under sink if you had a leak but throughout a house ? I’d keep them. Just my 2 cents. Thx for watching!

I turned off the water supply to the house and the hot water is still leaking. Do I have to drain my water heater to replace the hot water shut off valve under the sink?
@Housebarons7 ай бұрын
If you have sinks or pipes above the valve - then that might still be draining due to gravity, If your water heater is upstairs , I still don’t think it would siphon. Maybe let the valve drain into a bucket or pan, see if it eventually stops after the pipes empty… Hopefully that is what’s going on.
