The frame of the car is in the way of the alternator and its hard to even get a wrench in

2019 sonic. The tensioner is not the same. It’s what’s called an auto tensioner, use a E14 on the tensioner pulley clockwise, pull off belt. Then use a E12 socket on the spring bolt on the tensioner, move the spring out the way to gain access to the alternator bolts which are E14’s. Don’t use a 6 point socket like this dude, that’s how you end you stripping the bolt and or getting the socket stuck.

@@zmanmeyer2172 external torx sockets are the right tool. 6 or a 12 point sockets are not the right tool. Sure you can do it but you risk stripping the bolt and or getting a socket stuck.

Those alternator bolts… I think those heads are inverse Torx. Good video. I have to do one on my 2013, but my background as a mechanic is HD and heavy equipment, so this is very helpful.

They are E-torx or external torx

@@shidfard yep. I can’t remember the size. I bought the separate Torx and hex bit sets from Cornwell, then their master set went on sale a couple years later so I bought that and put the small sets to secondary use. So I actually had the right socket for it when I had to replace mine.
