I have no automotive skills whatsoever but this video made me feel like a pro! It was great that you were calling off the tool sizes as you went along. I got to a point where I realized I didn't have all the tools to complete the job. A quick run to the auto store fixed me right up and I was able to finish the job. There are a lot of fluffy kitty videos on KZbin but this video is what makes the internet awesome! Thanks!

Nice tutorial, I have a '97 Explorer still going strong at 155 k miles. Really simple job as it should be. I enjoy wrenching on older vehicles I can understand without all the unnecessary gadgets to deal with. Thinking of fully restoring it 🤔. Great channel, I enjoy your style of teaching people !😀

Very detailed and simply put video!! The battery on my 98 explorer XLT died a few days ago while I was driving it which was my fault because it died a while back and AAA told me it was at like 30% but I kept driving it anyway. So I replaced the battery and everything came on but it won’t start I can hear the starter clicking so I know that’s not it and I’m pretty sure I drained the alternator. With all that being said I’m going to change it myself after watching this video I feel very confident I can do it!!!👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽

Great video! Clean MAF sensor while you have it off. Save problems later down the road. It's amazing how we over look something so simple as checking and cleaning as we go. Kind of like house work, it's never gets done as well as we would like. I bought my 1998 Explorer sport in Aug 2012. It had 189,033 miles on it. Nothing had ever been replaced on the SUV. I got it for $1000 cash. Dead battery, needed tires and brakes in front. Check engine light was on. Before I made it home the battery light came on thinking it was just the bad battery I diagnosed the check lights as a vaccum leak and the alternator. dirty oil and Transmission and Brake fluid, coolant. I knew the hoses need replacing, so I replaced them all. Changed the oil and filter, sucked out all the transmission fluid, ABS bleed Check light went off. I upgraded the 95 amp factory installed alternator with a 130 amp one. Never have had problems since.$500 later. All these repairs would have cost over $2000 if I had taken it to a shop to do. Saved a bunch with my brothers help. He helped me by telling me what to do as I made the repair. I was so proud of myself.

@1aauto I have a 1999 Ford Explorer 5.0 V8. That space to reach the square tensioner slot is so tight; nearly impossible to see. Then, there is what I would identify as the radiator hose being right in the way. It is a direct obstruction. What can I do to get past this roadblock, so to speak?

There may be an issue with it, or with the wiring somewhere on the vehicle.

Check your battery terminals make sure they're clean and your negative and positive are snug tight. Also make sure your ground and positive cable aren't loose (Most Likely Down By Transmission). If everythings fine after you've gone down the list and the car still isn't starting, it is probably your starter

Working on a 3.0 Ranger, almost identical replacement though, is it common to need leverage to break these alternator bolts loose? These seem on insanely tight... I'm always fearful of breaking something off in these situations, and for some reason the ones I'm dealing with seem just really immovable.
@monkeywrangler520010 жыл бұрын
1A Auto Parts Thanks for the fast reply... Soaked it overnight actually and got them loose, had to leverage... Kinda shocked how tight they were though. Was thinking someone used threadlocker but not to be I guess. I rounded the tensioner assembly's bolt just recently so I was perhaps just overly paranoid, haha. The truck's nickname is Murphy at this point. :)
