@@danielworden4695 My 05 Pontiac grand prix does that, it only stalls after first or second start after it was already ran, like when I go to the store 5-10 min away. I changed the spark plugs, PVC valve and I need to do the 02 sensors clean or replace them and still do the throttle body and maf sensor clean

i have a intermittent problem with my 04 park avenue. Every once in a while ill lose power, like a lot. then the power will just randomly come back within a few minutes or so. last time that happened i floored it constantly to figure out what was going on, still had no power but i managed to get the CEL to flash twice. Also have rough idle in park and only park but not all the time. slightly hitting the gas fix's the rough idle. Taken it in multiple times to the mechanic and they can never get it to act up or figure out the problem. kinda wondering big time if this is the issue. Ive replaced about everything on that car. This problem happens like maybe once every 2k miles or so. Strangest thing Ive ever seen or heard of. 142k miles on it. I'm wondering if i should just do a egr delete with a nickle and see what happens, maybe?

I think if u smell rotten eggs. Check the catalytic converter i think i saw some things about that smell on google and saying its a bad catalytic converter

On my 3800 S2, I on occasion get a CEL and misfire. When I run the code it is Multiple Misfires Detected and EGR Stuck Open. After giving the car a whole new ignition system (wired, plugs, coils, control module, crankshaft sensor, etc) and still get those issues, think the EGR is really the culprit? It's about $150 part, and I have thought about changing it before, but what I want to know is how can you actually know when they really are going bad? I'm sure another 3800 owner has been through this. Great motor by the way, mine has 167k on the clock and overall still performs great! Just trying to keep her running her best.

I got this same issue. I have 1996 Buick LeSabre 3800 series 2. I inspected the EGR and saw a ton of rust on the metal around it. I bought some carb cleaner and I’m going to try and spray that in hopes it’ll solve my egr pintle position code and my cylinder 3 misfire.

@@Jeterboi From my experience, just go buy a new EGR with the lifetime warranty at O Reilly. Save yourself the headache. Also changed out my IAC and haven't had that issue since.

@@Jeterboi if you need to get by, take the EGR off and soak it in brake cleaner for a few hours. Then take a brush and get off as much gunk as you can. Just be careful not to break the plunger. Went through that stage too and it helped.

I know this is old but you gotta reset the egr by unplugging the battery completely.

Use the gasket and add a small amount liquid gasket to form to the rest of the gasket.

Got a 89 that runs rough but shuts off when i put it into drive or reverse but stays on for awhile if in park or neutral but i git give a little gas.. i changed sparks module coil and wires and crank and cam sensors and its still doing the same and it just did this out of nowhere like one minute im drinvig smoothly and the next it does this so any help would be appreciated

Ok my question is about the bracket where the egr solenoid is. If i put a chain around that bracket for an engine bar, will it hold the engine and transmission when i drop the subframe

I had my car scanned at O'Reilly's and the egr valve code showed up. If I replace it myself will I have to go back their to get the code cleared or is there a way to do it at home? Note: I do not have a scanner tool

To erase the code you can disconnect the negative battery cable from the battery. Leave it disconnected for at least 10 minutes. Be sure you have the code for your radio if your radio requires a code. Some radios will go into anti theft mode when disconnected from power.

My engine won't accelerate without stuttering and if I remove the O2 sensor it runs smoother but still cuts out before giving full power. A friend suggested a fuel filter clogged but changed that with no improvement. Only code thrown was a random misfire code but that went away randomly. New spark plugs too and no signs of excess oil or burning for anything on the old ones (probably could have left them). Any thoughts on if it could be the egr valve or if it's the O2 sensor? Several mechanics said of it was only the O2 sensor then it would at least have more power when accelerating, which is also why they suggested clogged fuel filter if the engine leaned out under load.

Sounds you may need a mechanic to diagnose this. I'd say it's best, given the info, that you get a hands on opinion.

I did all of the above coil packs, plugs and wires, fuel filter, air filter, map sensor, i went a few places and was told different things...my gut told me it was my catalytic converter and until i changed it, nothing else helped. It will cause you to loose power if its clogged. especially if u take the o2 sensor off and it runs a little better, thats only because you have opened up a way for air flow

Disconnect the negative cable for 10 minutes. Be sure you have the security code for your radio before you do it.. if it has one. Note, your car may run differently for a day or two. The computer may have to relearn.

A few years ago my mechanic blocked off the EGR by putting a piece of cardboard under it,covering up the intake from the exhaust holes, then bolting it down. He did this to take care of a engine missing problem, of which it did fix the problem.I should have ask him at the time why he just didnt replace it...I'm guessing, he thought this was a faster and cheaper fix. He has since retired, so i cant ask him now. At this point I would like to get rid of the check engine light, so can you think of a reason that i shouldn't buy and new one , or get one from a junk yard to replace it?

Yes.... Trees.. think of all the trees you can save by cutting down your NOX emissions. How do you sleep at nigh knowing you are a polluter?! Lol. Well, on a more serious note, cardboard doesn't seem like something I'd want to use for that purpose. I'm thinking hot gases mixed with flammable card board= bad combo. Other than that having a good EGR valve does help to cut down emissions. If you move to a state that has vehicle inspections you would have to fix that to get it road worthy. Also, say another problem arises that would normally cause the check engine light to come on.. . Well its already on so how would you know you have another problem?

The bolts won't go in if it's not lined up. I thought about this while making the video. I believe I even tried to put it in backwards but couldn't. As long as the new part has the same orientation as the old part and the bolts go in you should be fine.

Carbon build up. It is suggested that the EGR and passage ways should be cleaned every 50-80k miles and on GMs you should replace the EGR every 100k or 10 years which ever comes first.

Most of the parts that I've had on the car's been on there for over 10 years in the Park start eventually degrading especially when it comes to the emissions components so far I've almost replaced everything as far as emissions except for the EGR valve and that's the last component that I need to replace it to is not properly working and it was carbonated it previously been carbonated at 80,000 miles. However now that I'm at a hundred fifty thousand miles again it's right back where it was.
