You have become my lifesaver again! My front passenger door handle was broke off when I purchased 1996 Yukon. After watching the "red neck" method of reinforcing the handle I replaced with new one. Had exact same issue with driver's door on 99 Pukon. Thanks Daninator for sharing. I was concerned it would cost a lot more. At first I had to add excessive pressure to open door then I moved assembly forward about 3/16" after drilling new hole. (Mine had a screw.) That worked but it kept getting harder to open...then it snapped. After opening door from outside for a while... I saw your video. I think the hardest part will be finding a new handle. lol.

Thank you for taking the time to film and describe what you did in this video. Not only did I watch your first video last year and bend my connecting rods as you did, but I am now replacing my door handle on the driver's side - passenger side was replaced a few months ago. Also I am about to replace the little plastic pop-out knob that turns on the dome light when the door opens. Your video gave me the confidence to do so. Thank you so much!

thanks dude. This save me over $250. The dealer want $83 for an $8 part and $170 to install. It took me longer to find screw to replace rivet than putting it in.

Me again... Thought I'd let you know what I did that may prevent handle breakage. I applied epoxy 5 minute epoxy to fill the inside groove entirely. I am certain it will not break as quickly. The rivet was replaced by who ever had the Suburban before so you are correct in saying his is a common problem. Thanks for your video. It helped.

I like your no time wasted presentation but wish you had slowed down on removing the wiring plugs. For those that never before removed such plugs, as for me, had a hell of a time doing it. I had to remove slides and even broke a clip holder. I bought a 1995 Suburban with the broken inside handle on the driver's side. You are correct about it being poor quality and they should have corrected it in years to follow, using the same handles.

Thanks for this one. Need to replace my drivers side door handle, re-attach my lock actuator (It is held on with pop rivets that over time fell out and now blocks my window from rolling down all the way.) and at least 2 more actuators that are completely toast (not enough power to even lock or unlock the door) Then investigate why the rear drivers side window can be opened fine from the front... but the controller in the rear door will not do a thing... With as much as is messed up in the doors of these rigs, I would still take this over the mess that the Uplander van is.

Thanks for the upload. It got me through the hard parts for sure. Sadly, after replacing the handle assembly with a $20 new one....IT BROKE ON THE FIRST PULL 😡😡😡😡!! Caveat Emptor (Buyer beware)!!!! Talk about cheap parts 😡😡😡!! I dunno. Maybe the rods are bent wrong? I bought the truck used with a broken inner door handle. Who knows what all was done to it before I got it. But thanks again for uploading.

FYI for anyone doing this repair: The correct replacement rivet is an aluminum 3/16" x 1/4" rivet.

Cheap materials yes. And fuel pump issues. But mechanically is solid and reliable as can be. And the frame and suspension. Everything else is solid

Just an el cheapo bit that was slightly smaller in diameter than the rivet.

Ooohh. That's a tough one. I'm not too sure. Since the handle is broken on the inside, you may need to find a way to take the door panel off...or cut out the plastic door handle enough to reach in with some pliers to unlatch the door...I don't know man. That's a pretty sticky situation!

Call a locksmith. They have the tools to grab the linkage and open it.

Yea,you said it,Dan,the man,lol Definitely invetible replacement on these cheap handles,had the same issues & others on inner & outter door on my 99' Tahoe, that I'm looking to sell, so for now,I have no handles in both rear doors just open to pull the rod directly so now that I'm working on restarting it & selling,I wanna replace & I actually find them real cheap on wwwRockAuto.com as low as $5.50 each for those labeled fronts, though many others slightly more costly are labeled front or back & judging by looks alone & very similar part#'s I just wanna know if the fronts & backs are definitely interchangable. They sure seem to be & I want to save money,why not,just order the fronts at $5.50 each & throw them in back & sell it asap,after a few other minor things. Any idea if they for sure would be interchangeable from front to back? I"d like a 2nd opinion. I guess I could call the dealership too asap.
