this WOULD be the best iphone repair video I've seen yet, IF it weren't for a lot of missing steps and a completely missing reassembly.

I tried this out yesterday. Not every required screw is explained and shown in the video, but it was still VERY helpful. It only took me about 30 minutes to disassemble the iPhone. After checking the putatively defect home button (it was just jammed behind the display) I needed over 2 hours to put the logic board back in place! I lost my temper more than once :-) Everything's fine now, the "old" home button is working again. Thank's to iFixit!

Lots and lots of negative comments on this video. I can see that there are gaps in the video when it comes to detailed steps, but the step by step Repair Guide is invaluable. I must say the iPhone 4 is ANNOYING but why complain about that on this comment strain. The video and guide worked great. I haven't done this very much and I accomplished it in right around an hour and a half. Yes, it took a while, but not all of us have $750 for a new phone.

Hi, I just wanted to say this video really helped me. But when I put it back together I couldnt hear anything. Just in case anyone else has a similar problem. It was a poor connection either in one of the ribbon strips or the actual ear speaker. I took it all back apart and slightly bent the ear speaker metal prongs upwards slightly and made sure everything went back correctly and securely. Many thanks, RJ

There were a few missing steps from the video but a bit of common sense and careful use of the tools, I soon found out for myself what I should be doing to fill the small gaps. The phone is now working 100% from following this video. Thanks again.

Guys, before you start disassembling your iPhone, try to use alcohol - that is what I did: Turn off the phone, put a little alcohol on your finger or a cotton swab and apply it on and around the home button (not too much though). Then press hard the home button a couple of times so that the alcohol gets under the button and cleans the accumulated dirt beneath. Let it be for approx. thirty minutes (alcohol evaporates) and turn the phone back on. See if it helps...

Infact I think is not necessary to dissemble the entire device for remove the home button.. or maybe yes because that was a special thing of apple , abs it still is a special thing that button, but anyway I’m sure she removed additional things despite there are screws hidden behind some hardware/devices that need to be removed, but only if you want to disassemble the screen, so for the home button wasn’t necessary remove all tings, but only the upper part to get access to the home button. Anyway I’m sure she never was able to reassemble the iPhone :D

Go to the site and have the step-by-step guide up at the same time as the video (has a lot more of the steps). The little ribbon cable for the button is tricky, mainly because it's hard to see which bit you're tying to lift up, and which bit it attached to the board - the pic in the guide shows this better than the video - so go slow at this point, There is a little gold pin on the top of the mother board which is very delicate, watch out for that. When putting the phone back together - use gravity to help you - for the side screws for example, put the phone on its side - the screws are so small, I found it pretty tricky until I did this (yes, there was swearing). Biggest problem I had was the screws pinging off into the corner of the room when trying to put things back together - I should have had a proper tidy up first - and got plenty more light. But in the end, working button again, so can't argue with that!

Thanks for the video. A number of steps are missing such as not showing all the screws to be removed, an insulator sticker over one of the internal cover screws, noting that screw lengths are different on some of the cover attachments, and the removal of a slot head screw which is, in turn, screwed into by a philips head screw. Use this video as a guide only and best to do a video of your disassembly so you know how everything goes back together

Pretty easy to change the home button, just don't rush the job. Re-assembly is straightforward enough, again don't rush the job. There's 3 iphone 4's in the family and I've changed the screens and home buttons on 2 of them. Be patient, don't rush and work methodically, put all the screws back in the holes they came from and you won't have a problem.

hello. i just did this and the homebutton works fine now.. but when i turn it on, the screen shows about 2 mil of grey to the right. it's like it got pushed to the left for some reason. the touch screen works but it also seems a bit aligned to the left. when i reassembled i think i bent the digitizer cable. a hard bend. could this be the problem or would i just need to readdjust the hardware somehow
