Excellent video - clear and easy to follow. I'm a 63 year old female with minor mechanical skills but I watched the video and followed it exactly and it worked like a charm! My husband is too tall to fit in the back seat to do it and we're 200 miles from a dealership, so it was me or nothing! I loved the tips and explanation of how to do everything. Great job!

I would like to add....... to minimize or even prevent fuel from spilling after taking the hose off is to do this (if time allow) when the car has been sitting at least overnight and the engine has not been started. This way the pressure inside the fuel line has been reduced and will prevent gas from spraying inside your car. Thank you for making this video.

I wonder if opening your fuel cap to release pressure from the system before doing the job would help too

Thank you. This video was super helpful. Specifically about removing the electrical connector from the pump. My was super dead. No response. The new one powered up immediately and the car started right up. Admittedly it probably should have been replaced a while ago. I have a 2001 330i with 135k on it and was running the original pump. I saw someone in a forum say "living on borrowed time." That was me. Thanks again and I'm subscribing!

Thanks for this great video! I used it last night to replace my fuel pump and it took me just over an hour. Only think I would add is to clamp off the fuel hose with some long nose vice-grips to avoid the "big splash"!!!

Should be noted the M3 uses a totally different connector, just found out the hard way, along with all the headaches with seller trying to wiggle their way out of refund. These use barb n hose, m3 has rimlock attachment. Plenty of 330i pumps being sold on eBay listing compatibility with the M3 too, again, a point I discovered after the fact!! Great vid as always man

Brooooooooo thank you from the bottom of my heart!!! My car.. it wouldnt start today (E46 318Ci) Last night it was PERFECT (as usual) today it just wouldnt start?! The starter was spinning everything normal but it wouldnt start.. No lights on the dash.. Must be fuel related my brain said, i checked the components and most probable issue was a fuel pump, saw the video, took few tools and what i did was i hit the fuel pump with the hammer as i was spinning the key to start the car, and it worked :D it started! So now that i had a car, i went and bough a pump had it replaced and issue solved within 1 hour :D Thanks so much man, it was gonna take 4 days if i let my mechanic do that on his own! No car for the weekend? Not today! :D

Excellent video as usual! I didnt get nearly that much fuel gushing out the hose connection. I used a brush and a shop vac with the narrow nozzle to clean up the area before removal. It's important to make sure you seat that gasket as you did before trying to insert the pump and you can install it before inserting the pump in the hole. It's a little easier to make sure it's seated perfectly that way but just requires a little more jockeying of the pump since the hole becomes slightly smaller. I also marked the ring so I knew about how far to tighten without going overboard. Couldnt get a VDO right away so chose the Bosch and its fine so far. I was too scared to try one of the $50 generics which had a few reviewers with premature failures ;)

Thanks for the vid it was great, I've seen some other vid saying to unplug the fuel pump fuse the letting the car die so fuel wouldn't be in the lines as much idk if thats true but maybe try it for yourself

When reusing an old pump, you can test the sender part of the fuel pump with a voltmeter. Using the two pins that are closest together at the outside connector, empty should read close to 70ohms and full close to 400ohms. If the float arm moves freely, and you get those readings on your voltmeter when moving the arm, the sender part of the assembly works fine. If those readings are way off or don't scale smoothly, the arm can be pried off with small flathead, then the piece with the contacts for the arm can be cleaned or resurfaced with 1k grit sand paper. Recheck ohms with voltmeter.

Nice video but you're wrong about the second Fuel Sender, It does not send fuel from one side of the tank to the other. To account for surging and fuel moving about in the tank BMW use two fuel level senders for the gauge. The cluster takes an average of both senders and a delta fuel gauge reading. Otherwise the gauge would rise and fall every time you went round a corner.
