Don't bother replacing the switch. Remove it and pull it apart. It is really the most simple switch you will ever see. Clean up the contacts with some sand paper and good as new.

The brake switch is easily opened. Open the switch and clean the contacts. The one that will be on the end and closed is the one that causes the problem. Just fixed mine that way.

My 2000 GMC sonoma brake lights won't work, but my 3rd brake light and signals work just fine. I wonder if the switch is bad even if the 3rd brake light is working? Any suggestions. Thanks

I've replaced my brake light switch on my 2000 GMC Sierra 1500. It is exactly like the one in the video. The problem: after I replaced the switch, my brake pedal is stiff and brakes basically do not work. I can remove the brake fluid reservoir lid and pump the brake and no air is coming through. Do I need to bleed the brakes in order to make the brakes work properly?

I Think something wasn't connected properly when you installed it. If something is not correct the brakes will not work as the switch itself sends the signal to the master cylinder which activates the braking. Just what I learned from other videos, which has intimidated me from doing this job myself. What did you find to be the problem? Sorry the youtuber on the video did not respond to you. Kind of crappy since there are only three comments.

The switch does not activate the brakes. Sounds like the rod to the master cylinder didn't get put back on.

Could you go over replacing the wire harness for the break switch. Ordered a new one but the wires are all white and no instructions. Replaced but not working. Thanks

So i was going to replace this switch on my 00 s10 and i wiggled the switch and noticed the brake lights were working just fine so the switch works just fine but where it has some play once mounted by on the brake pedal does anyone know how to adjust it so it has no play thanks in advance

My switch was on upside down. Clip was on bottom. I was loosing my mind trying to figure out why the new one wouldn't go on. Also, I couldn't shift out of park.. thanks
