Thanks for the great, detailed instructions! Yesterday, I was able to replace the front brake pads and rotors on my 2007 PT Cruiser. It saved me a whole bunch of money. And if this 61 year old GRANDMA can do this from watching your video, then anyone should be able to do this! Once again, thank you for the great video.

Watched this video just before replacing the front rotors and pads on my wife's 2006 PT Cruiser. I've changed pads before but never rotors, and was a but apprehensive. Thanks to the great instructions, I got the job done successfully. Thanks 1aauto!

send the insurance is so low on these seriously considering one at $3k since the price is so low, I have an extra $2k to fix this and maybe the steering pump and odds are I'll have this video hooked up outside cause I don't wanna pay labor mucking with these. steering pump maybe but not the brakes because it's not that involved. (although depending on where you are coming from it could be easier than it looks. the pumps on the passenger side and some videos want to get to it from the driver side smh I suppose but the other way is easier

We do have some videos like this on other vehicles, but the procedure on your PT Cruiser would be different.
@canuckfixit77223 жыл бұрын
I thought that it was not advisable to force-back the caliper pistons on cars with ABS. Instead, you have to open the bleed screw to release the excess fluid. I replaced pads all around on two PT Cruisers I have owned over the years and followed the old-school procedure of using a C-clamp to press the pistons back into their bores without opening the bleed screw. Never had a problem but moving forward, I will follow this updated procedure. This is not an issue when installing new calipers as they are empty and the pistons are fully retracted anyway.

@javierrm34 It's pretty much straight forward as the video shows.

I had new rotors and v line brake pads installed on my 2001 PT, at a Chrysler Dealership 11 mths ago and after only putting on 5000k they are squeaking alot which is annoying. Any suggestions on how to cure this problems, look forward to your reply, thanks Great video by the way

We currently do not have an auto repair video that shows you how to do this on the PT Cruiser. We do carry the Haynes auto repair manuals that should cover this for you. Here's a link to them on our website. 1aauto.com/1A/repairmanual/Chrysler/PTCruiser/1AMNL00257/219284/2001?ATony

@1AAuto5 жыл бұрын
Thanks for checking us out. There will also be caliper clips that were not mentioned in this video as they are attached to the brake pads. However, when new pads are purchased, new clips are not included. You would need to either reuse the original clips or purchase new clips separately. Hope this helps you out! +D Springer

Hi i wounder if you may be able to give me some advice on a PT Cruiser i have just bought... I got in the car with out the engine running pressed the breaks and it felt spongy so i pumped it and it goes hard. I then started it and the break peddle goes to the floor. I then took it for a drive and did a emergency stop. As spongy as the peddle is it stops you on the spot. The guy says he put new pads in the front but was told it will need new discs or rotors as you call them. There is no brake fluid loss. The car is a Chrysler pt cruiser year 2005 and done 69.000 miles one lady owner. She said it passed the MOT like it so even though the brake peddle is spongy it breaks good. Thank you in advance
@1AAuto8 жыл бұрын
Hi Tim, it sounds like your brakes have some air in the lines somewhere. This means they need to be bled as soon as possible! A spongy brake pedal is a surefire sign of air in the hydraulic system. Oftentimes when stopping short, or doing an emergency stop as you did, the brakes will feel stiff as usual, but the air in the line will compress and you'll lose brake pressure, which leads to them not working at all. Very dangerous! It's really easy to bleed though, and luck for you, we have a couple videos showing you how to do it! I'll link to them for your convenience. The process is pretty much the same for most vehicles, so don't worry that this isn't a PT Cruiser. Good luck! 1aauto.com 866-403-3393 kzbin.info/www/bejne/iXnHq2eZjJ6krtk kzbin.info/www/bejne/sKLQd4Kknt-ejas kzbin.info/www/bejne/pnWbpYuIjLx2qMk

Thank You for the info....I think i will watch your vids and bleed them...I think at the same time i will replace all rotors and pads and have a good clean up. I went out today and bought a self bleeder with a non return valve in it...But i think will get my friend to pump the breaks up and down for me so as i can see in the clear tube if bubbles are in the system....I also have one more problem that i could use your expert advice on please....POWER steering .....Turn the steering wheel to the right and its very easy very light.. Turn the steering to the left and its a lot harder. The pump does not seem to be making and odd sounds like they do when they give up on you. In the past when a pump has gone on me it made a horrid sound and the steering wheel was hard to turn in both directions......Apart from those 2 things the car drives like a dream. It still steers good it is just harder to steer to the left. If its just a case of putting a new pump on then thats all good with me i can do that...I am a bit edgy on how hard it is to put a new steering rack on if its that that is shot...Thank you very much for your advice and very quick response.

You could go to your local auto parts store and buy some anti squeek lubricant for brake pads. It goes on the back of the pad that touches the caliper, not of the braking surface. You could also go back to the dealer and see if they can do this for you. It shouldn't take them long to do. Hope this helps you out. Have a great day 1aauto.com 888-844-3393

I replace my brake pads everything was ok but after a couple of days using the car i notice a popping sound after i apply heavy pressure on the brakes and it only happens when i apply heavy pressure on the brakes if i apply light pressure no noise at all ANY IDEALS ANY ONE
@1AAuto9 жыл бұрын
Thank you for watching. Unfortunately I am not sure what it is. You may want to remove the brakes and double check the install. Its possible the pads are not sliding causing the popping noise, or maybe the pads aren't sitting straight. You could also have a problem with the caliper itself like the slide pins aren't sliding, or the caliper was not compressed evenly so its not sitting flat. But the only way to tell is checking the install.Please let us know how the repair comes out! 1aauto.com 888-844-3393
@PracticalDigitalStrategies7 жыл бұрын
You need a 14MM instead of a 12MM for 2008 brakes. And still need the 18MM to remove the caliper though. Rent a caliper compressor tool, like a big clamp to compress the caliper back, tried with a large plumbing pliers, no good, the clamp was the way to go.
