So does that mean I have to go to the dealer to get this changed out? Or that I have to buy a filter housing?

I have a 2001 limited edition and it looks nothing like this . We opened up everything and there wasn’t even a cabin air filter

This cabin air filter is a Dealer installed option. Not all PT Cruisers came with a cabin air filter housing.

Yes, my 2002 Dreamcruiser just has an opening with a cover (behind the window washer fluid tank) that goes directly down into the blower. No filter at all! It's quite frustrating that this car has an OPTIONAL cabin air filter?! It was 20 years ago, but c'mon people!
