You don't have to drain the coolant. Just pull out the sensor and install the new one.

Just replaced mine on my 03 Sentra, same engine. No need to drain the fluid, just disconnect the connector to the sensor take 19MM deep socket or Wrench and loosen it. It did not leak any coolant at all. Hope this helps

Do Not over tighten the sensor, it is made of brass and will break off in your engine. Once you have it hand tight, you only need to turn the wrench a half turn or less to snug it up. Don't forget to bleed air out of the coolant system when replacing fluid.

1) Never take the radiator drain (petcock) out unless you have to. Unthread it a few turns until it starts draining. I'm reluctant to even loosen it a little. Not something you want leaking down the road because you messed with it. 2) the coolant temp sensor is at the top of the engine! You only needed to drain a very little if at all. Why not just pull the coolant temp sensor out, let a little drain (if it even does) and replace? 🤦🏼‍♂️ Maybe you parts guys should stick to selling parts!

2 questions. •How do I replace the thermostat? My temp gauge keeps up and down, the a/c stops working and recently white smoke was coming out the exhaust. •Will replacing the thermostats help?
@hifigator4609
@hifigator4609 2 жыл бұрын
there are two thermostats in these Nissan engines ... obviously because 2 is better than 1 (sarcasm) -- long pause for uncontrollable laughter -- And yes, i know the yankees here have a valid counter point, but here in Florida, no thermostat at all is fine and dandy! Yes, you'll lose a bit of fuel efficiency, especially with short early morning trips. And your heat will be pretty much useless on any short trips. BUT you will probably never blow a hose and thus never be stranded due to a blown hose. And you will probably never have any radiator issues. And your engine will never run hot, barring catastrophic problem or blatant neglect. You can lose water very slowly, especially in the summer. but just check once every month or so and top off if needed. Yes you can run perfectly with or without a thermostat. But with these Nissans, you can't run with just 1, so my vote here in Florida goes to none.

@1AAuto

If you are fast, you'll only lose a little, but you still need to bleed the air out of the system afterwards. And of course you'll be letting antifreeze run down your engine bay, making it smell like antifreeze and potentially getting water where you don't want it.

i have a 2006 Nissan Altima 2.5 S with a no-heat at idle or low speeds (i.e. no defrost ). when I get up to 50mph or higher speeds the heater is fairly good, but as soon as I come to a slow speed limit, the heat fades to cool air. I cant defrost my windshield or clear in sleet/snow. I have replaced both thermostats and flushed the heater core in both directions. what should I try next and do you have a video for it?

@@kaleidoscope8743 Is your coolant level staying at proper level? If not you may have a leak or blown head gasket. However, you may just need to burp the system. That heater core sits in a bad place like many other vehicles. There may be trapped air in there and you are just pushing enough hot liquid at ~2000rpm to get heat but the air is still stuck at the top of the HC. Get a special funnel, sorry forgot the p/n I have, that attaches to the radiator. Raise front of car, best to place on hill or ramps to get good angle. Keep funnel topped off as you warm engine to operating temp and then keep revs up for about 5 to 10 minutes to push air out and coolant in. When bubbles stop, you should be good. Sorry, hard to describe in short reply but I am sure there are plenty of videos on this procedure.
