TRQ! Change the title, please! Anyone with a P0128 code is getting freaked out by your video that shows how to change the OIL PRESSURE/TEMP SENSOR- which is comparatively difficult / time consuming. The Coolant Temperature Sensor requires no removal of engine parts, as it is on the exterior of the engine and rather easily accessed.

Hah... You're talking about me. I was amazed that they would bury a coolant temp sensor so deep :)

This is where my coolant temp sensor is located just above the oil pressure sensor like in this video. with that said some models have the coolant temp sensor at a very easy location at the front of engine. video description is correct, would not hurt to point out other model locations

this is not the coolant temperature sensor. this is for the oil temp sender. coolant temp is at front of cylinder head between head and radiator. also, oil temp sender can be replaced without removing intake.

I just finished replacing the coolant temperature sensor on a 2011 Dodge Grand Caravan with a 3.6 and its located between the radiator and the engine. It has a black and red connector. I removed everything from the intake and when i removed that sensor i noticed that it had oil on the tip. I placed a napkin inside the hole to check and it was oil. After doing some research online i found out that it was the oil temperature sensor and not the coolant temperature sensor. The oil pressure sensor is under the oil temperature sensor. Both coolant and oil sensors look the same.
@scientist1003 жыл бұрын
Yes, this is the oil pressure sensor, for most car, there are two sensors here per Mitchell manual (from a Dodge Caravan 2014 3.6L), the oil temperature sensor (top) and oil pressure sensor, bottom side. The video here appears to only have one sensor so it is possible that it is the ECT sensor for this van.
@arsenelupin3693 жыл бұрын
@@scientist100 To my knowledge, they all have the 2 sensors, oil temp and pressure sensors, done this job a few times, now there are 2 types of coolant sensors, one on the head 2014 - 2020 the other on the oil filter cooler housing 2014 - 2016, from the specs both sensors on the cooler are supposed to be oil related bit is possible that some models piggy back on the temp one. The 2014 unit that I'm working on has one on the head, it was faulty but I still get some erratic issues on the coolant temp, the dial fluctuates , gets hot but poor heating in the van, I changed the thermostat and in the process of water pump replacement, this is just recent, the heater core appears normal.

Very informative video. This seems to be the by book method. Used to replace oil pressure sensor without take off intake. So coolant temperature sensor might be replaced by the same method. There is some openings in front of the three bolts bracket. You could do it there. Also, don't have to remove the bracket in front of intake. Thanks again for sharing!

Diagnostics says that the heat sensor is not working, it could be that the heat of the sensor is causing the car to not start in cold weather. thank you in advance.

Why go through removing the upper intake plenum when a person should be able to go from the drivers side of the oil cooler with a deep well socket and a universal joint to remove the temp sensor and install the new one? I know the oil temp sensor can be replaced that way. That will save a lot of time and you don't have to open the engine and risk getting debris inside the engine.
