A very well made video. Straight to the point and no head banging music playing. Only thing I noticed was nothing showing axle nut removal, only replacing at the end and the torque value.

I want to thank you so much about the axle should pop in. I watched your video and another video where he banged it in with a hammer, even went to a bigger hammer to finally get it home. I replaced my axle today on my 2010 Hummer H3 and after watching you do it a few times I decided I would stick with your method until it finally happened. Granted I was not nearly as good as you, but after 15 or so tries it popped in to place perfectly and I was super stoked.....

I'm glad the video was helpful. Yea, sometime it takes time to find a correct position - but it is better to spend time and do it without forcing with hammer.

Man this made my job so much easier, I was putting on my Wheel Hub and i broke my DRIVE SHAFT On my Beautiful hummer H3, cause i was being careless lol but thanks to this, i can just buy a new one and put it on my self!!! Thank you!

Very good video . Now there is one thing I always do when working on a truck or car . If I remove the tire I always slide it under the car or truck . For a added safety measure . As a matter of fact I started replacing mine just a few min ago . Then said time to refresh your video. First thing I did was jack the canyon up and remove then slide tire under cross member area . Thank You

Finally finished same job did both sides upper control arms cve shafts and lower ball joints wanted do complete was hard get bolts out control arms was from state with salt looks really good need get lined up now thanks for video was very helpful

2003 pt cruiser this piece the C V shaft was replaced in my car but after that was done my ABS and TRAC OFF lights came on and won’t turn off. What do you think went wrong?

You can use regular jack to lift - but you should be using proper jack stand to support the vehicle while working on it. goo.gl/X9h7sU They are cheap - but absolutely necessary when working under vehicle

I tried the pry bar method on my Jeep Commander, All went well until time to pop out the axle. It would not come out. I pried and pried, I actually bent the Axle drive shaft seal and the oil started leaking out. Unfortunately none of the local parts stores had the seal. Have to visit dealer in the morning. You should mention that there is a tool similar to the tie rod end remover (aka pickle fork) that can be rented from parts store. Once I got this tool and hit with a BFH the axle popped right out. Took all of 1 minute. Never do this repair on a Sunday.

Agree with both... don't leave the project for Sunday afternoon - you never know how it is going to go :-), and it is definitely better to have all tools for the job.

Hello thanks for the video preparing to do this job soon. Couldn’t understand how to get the ball joint and hub assembly bolts fastened at a specific torque setting using a regular socket as shown on the video. Is there anu issue on just fastening those back as tight as possible?

You definitely need torque wrench. I used torque wrench (I missed few things in the video... was just starting making vids :-). I would suggest to borrow or rent from someone if you don't want to buy one.

+fishbone856. I had high-lift, car jack and wheel under rock slider... but agree, the more safety the better. If I would be able to have the same setup on trail I would be happy :-)

Thanks for the video! Ran into one issue, after reinstalling cv shaft, knuckle/hub, wheel will only turn a quarter in any direction and not freely. This a probable with the new cv axle or did I install wrong into the differential?

This is first time I hear about problem like this tbh. Did you pushed CV into differential as in video, c-clip gap down and to the point that it engaged with diff? Look on the other side if you changed just one and see if there is difference in distance between CV and diff

Upper ball joint is different on colorado. You loosen a nut off the bottom of the join

I'm getting ready to do this job on my H3. Question for you the tool list in the beginning of the video mentions a 1/16 wrench/socket did you mean a 1 1/16?

Great video actually all your videos are awesome. I just purchased a 08 H3 X and I notice that the fan clutch is loud for about 3mins while I'm driving then it stops. The guy I bought it from says it's a heavy duty fan clutch so it doesnt over heat. Any truth to this? Or is it a faulty clutch.

Thank you for your video. I followed your instruction and it worked all except C V Joint installment. I put C clip facedown and it didn't go in all the way. I put C clip face up or left or right. I didn't go in all the way, I even hammered it didn't work. Any ideas?

C-clip should face down and you wiggle a little bit when inserting CV shaft. It is in when you hear light click/snap and can feel that differential is engaged when you start rotating. I don't recommend to hammer it - just try few times... it may take few tries

Hey man, I've got this mud like grease, splattered in wheel well, on my shock and lower control arm. I havent inspected the cv joint boots for problems, mostly cuz the grease is on the piston portion of my fox shocks and made me suspect the shock went bad (I also noticed this side is slightly dropped because the bump stop is now resting on the lower control arm) making me suspect it was the shock. I have no experience with this. Any suggestions?

I would suggest to get one of OBD Reader similar to this one: goo.gl/RBqmJ9 and check for error code. Once you have an error code you will have idea where the problem is. What vehicle do you have and where are you located?

I bought from rockauto OEM. I found that all aftermarket CV's are not as good as original GM

If it's ok, and bushing in lower is not too bad - I would not do it, unless you already have parts and time to do it. I still have original and all good.

Sorry silly question but what do you mean by the c clip should face down? Do you mean the cut part of the clip is downward or the curved solid part? Not sure how else to describe my question besides I’m not sure what side of a c clip is considered the face of it. Great video by the way!

My truck makes a clicking sound when I drive, my boots are split and it screeches when in 4wd, they have no grease in them, I have the diff drop kit but do you think I could just replace the boot and not the shaft?

Also, the clicking noise gets significantly less loud once it gets warm and after driving a minute I doesnt get worse or better while I'm turning sharp

When you hear a clicking sounds coming from axle - the boot replacement would be just waste of money in my opinion. I would replace axle. If you have Hummer H3 - go with original OEM AC Delco only. Aftermarket CV's for Hummer H3 are not very reliable

Yes - good catch man! :-). You are referring to Sway Bar Link. You don't have to touch it at all. Yeah, was just finishing up. Just a bad CV joint, 90k miles, & wore out I guess. Glad I found this, probably wouldn't have tried it. I did try to get by just using a floor jack with a jack-stand under the lower control arm & it was fine until I tried getting it all back together. Ended up having to do like you said & using a little scissor jack. Thanks again!

I just did this with my buddy on his H3. After everything was complete, we had tremendous vibration on acceleration. Does anyone have any insight why a new part would vibrate? The new cv shaft was from O'Reilly's.

If installed properly... the bearings in shaft would be the first suspect. Jack up the front wheels by the control arms, so they're off the ground, and support them with safety stands. Grasp the wheel, holding it first at the sides, then at the top and bottom. See if you can rock the wheel in and out and if you can feel any looseness

We're tearing it apart tomorrow and taking the aftermarket shaft back to O'Reilly's and for a remy. The old shaft didn't vibrate but all the grease had already been flung out. Thanks I'll check the unit bearing out too.

Awesome Thank u i just started removing everything like u did on the video step by step I'm stuck with the steering knuckle I got the bolt off but don't know how to completely remove the knuckle out I have to put in a used differential mines busted up front wheels completely locked I'm doing everything as u did on the video I'm just a disable veteran so it's taking me kinda slow which I don't mind but I just don't know how to remove the lower steering knuckle out thays where I'm stuck at right now..

My axle seal has a small leak. It is not dripping just seepage. Should I go ahead and change it or wait? I just hit 100,100 miles. Thanks.

I would change it. If it is leaking - the water and dirt can get in as well and make more damage.

Owner 2006 H3; So if the drive shaft axle is leaking at all there's simply nothing else you can do other than add fluid or replace the seal, and might as well replace the drive shaft axle too since it's 10 years old anyway is that about right?

I would replace seal only for start. Don't think you need to replace drive shaft if there is no problem. That is my preference given that I always carry spare one when off-roading.

Might be a good idea if you don't have spare one. Buy 2 new shafts and carry old one as a spare.

Hi, no - you don't need to replace both if another one is ok... it's not like brakes or rotors which you need to replace both sides.

Humman Off-Road Thanks. I wasn’t sure if when one goes bad, maybe the other isn’t far behind. It’s leaking oil out and grinding when I make turns

@@AP_ProudAmerican If it's leaking differential oil - you need to replace CV shaft seals. Seals are very cheap and since you will be replacing shaft - it is good idea to replace seals. Unless another one has ripped boot or leaking grease - I would leave it. That's what I did in this video - I just replaced one and good one is still good after all off-roading, only now the boot is leaking a bit... I'm going to try to replace just boot soon.

no, I did not. I know some mechanics who will tell you to do alignment after your change flat tire ... but I don't believe them :-)

Humman Off-Road And they are full of crap. There is nothing to align. Looking at your suspension there there is only the tie rod end which you didn't touch. That's the only thing that can be adjusted anyway, so you were right not to get it aligned. Most wheel alignments are a scam these days as most cars can't have anything more aligned then the toe angle and unless you have had a serious accident or replaced the tie rod end there is literally nothing to align.

You should have torsion bars in those vehicles. To replace CV half shaft - you don't need to touch torsion bars. Sorry, I am not sure what you are asking.
