This was a very instructive video with clear directions. I intend to do this very thing to my 240z trans once I pull the engine in November. Thank you very much!

Ive subscribed I forget to hit the like button.Both my cars a 73 240 and a back dated 78 280Z are running carbed L28 motors with headers.I had good luck at getting five speeds for both. I plan on wrx limited slip on my" get soon " list after I build the motors. Great series, I love watching other Z builds. You know most people dont understand Air cooled carbed Porsche 911 have hit the roof " cant touch them " its only competitor in the day was the first series Z. They wont be around long most are being shipped over seas. When im done with these two. One is mine one Im building for my ex step daughter she always had one in her garage in video racing games. I will hunt down two more to restore.I just love tbis car they are roomy yet small fast enough to chase porsches and mustangs. A as modern to look at as an early 911. Great series

Great video. Thanks for sharing! I also need to do the O-ring on the striking rod shaft at the rear. How much play on the input or output shaft is too much? Mine moves about a 1/16 of an inch.

Awesome! I’m glad it helped. I was running into the same thing with all the manuals, sometimes they are so confusing and horrible pictures. Thanks for watching!

Came suggested to me it's helpful to hold that shim in place with grease so it's not moving on you.

Good video! Going to do that to my old 4 speed when I pull it.

Is tha the same tranny on 210 ? 4 speed ?
@CarsBikesandCoffee3 жыл бұрын
I’m not 100% sure what the 210 uses. It is a four speed, yes.

Any idea if that rear seal can be replaced without pulling the transmission? Just by removing the drive shaft? Thanks
@CarsBikesandCoffee3 жыл бұрын
The rear seal to the driveshaft yoke? If so I would say yes. A little cramped but doable.
@Behine.DeChilis3 жыл бұрын
@@CarsBikesandCoffee awesome. Thanks for the info.
@lolman773 жыл бұрын
@@Behine.DeChilis yep, totally doable. That's how I did it, and it was pretty fine. Slightly more annoying to hammer the new one in with little space, but difficulty 3 to 4/10 (depending on how easily comes your drive shaft)

Is there anywhere that I can find that shim, without buying a full rebuild kit?
@CarsBikesandCoffee4 жыл бұрын
You might be able to, just have to hunt for it. Check out www.datsunpartz.com it might help!

do you know if a Nissan d21 uses the same seal and the same work
@CarsBikesandCoffee4 жыл бұрын
I can’t say 100% but they look very similar.
@harrydong684 жыл бұрын
There is another o-ring on the shift rod, you would need to unbolt the rear case to get to it
@yobringitondown5565 Жыл бұрын
Yes. I replaced mine. They are no longer available from Nissan but I found a place online that sells a generic seal of the same size. Works perfectly

@@yobringitondown5565 Any tips? I need to do the same to mine.
@lolman773 жыл бұрын
Even though you didn't do the top seal, how would you replace it? I'm going to do this job on mine and would like to change the top one, just for peace of mind. Just RTV Sealant?
@CarsBikesandCoffee3 жыл бұрын
I would get a sheet of gasket and make your own. Pretty easy. Thanks for watching!🤘🏻
@UncleBucksHat3 жыл бұрын
Why don't you replace that top plate gasket? My trans appears to have all the leaks coming from that area. Seems like a simple fix rather than wait and see and pull the trans again to replace.
@CarsBikesandCoffee3 жыл бұрын
I would totally agree if you have it out. Do it. In my case it was dry and for me to get it out at my home shop isn’t that hard if it begins to seep/leak.

Good video but you need to work on the audio. Your voice is too soft compared to the music, I had to constantly adjust the volume so I could hear you vs getting blasted by the music.

6:33 I just replaced these rubbers, but later I've heard it isn't good to apply Vaseline on rubber parts.
@CarsBikesandCoffee5 жыл бұрын
These seals aren’t real rubber which petroleum based lubricant (Vaseline) can harm. Definitely do your research to double check but there isn’t a problem using it on them.
@peterkloostermann5 жыл бұрын
@@CarsBikesandCoffee Okay, that's reassuring to hear!
@TheSaturnV5 жыл бұрын
I've seen Vaseline attack various types of plastics and rubber. I would just skip using it altogether on my cars and opt for something like white lithium, etc.
@CoreysZ322 жыл бұрын
I believe the correct install is dry for the outside of the seal and lubricated for the inside w the respective oil. There are rubber seals, but im not sure if the oem is viton etc. Always check when ordering seals and go for the synthetic options. (Thanks for showing this so i know what is involved!)
