So, here's a little trick I learned in putting the new bushings in place. If you try tapping them in, you'll just break off the flanges, and fill up your swear jar. Instead, use a 5/16" bolt about 2.5" long, two washers, and a socket that is large enough for the splined end of the bushing to fit inside. Put a washer on the bolt, run it through the flanged end of the bushing, through the hole in the hinge frame, though the open end of the socket, another washer, and then a nut. Line it all up and slowly tighten the nut/bolt. It will press the bushing in place as slick as can be. No damage, no swearing.

I just did the new hinge pins and bushings on my 2003 GMC Sonoma SLS. It was EASY! The only part of the job that was concerning me was the spring. I went to Harbor Freight, and for about $5 I bought a GM door spring removal tool (I've also seen them at auto parts stores for about $7) It made the whole job very easy. I opened the tool and pushed it into the spring. Then tapped it with a hammer until it stopped. Then just torqued down the screw and the spring came right out. It stayed there while I replaced the pins and bushings. When I was ready, I put the spring back in place and loosened the bolt on the tool and the spring went right back into place very easily the FIRST time I tried it. The tool made the job MUCH easier.

Thank you for the good videos and especially ones using the 95-98 Tahoe. Perfect for my 97's. In the video you mention the bushings go to the vehicle side of the hinge but this is only on the top one. On the lower hinge the bushings go to the door side.

@SRHDave13 If the pins are worn bad enough the could have a shoulder on them thta is holding them. Either use the jack to support the door in different positions or have someone work the door up and down while you are pushing them out. My best suggestion.

Thank You so much for this video!!!! My exboyfriend replaced my door pin on my truck 5 times and it still would not work right. From watching your video, he put the bushings in the wrong way and the top bushig kept falling down, so my door would not shut. Now I watched your video and feel comfident that I put the door pin in the right way and not have anymore problems with my door. Thank you for putting information out here on the web so people can do things for theirselves if they want to.

@sylveskyl You may want to inspect the hinge itself or the holes in the hinge where the pins go through to see if they are elongated.

When replacing the motor mounts on the suburban, you have to have a way to support the engine as well as lift up the engine to remove the old mounts and install the new ones. If you feel this is something you are not capable of doing on your own, it would be in your best interest in having a mechanic.

Thanks! The video was very helpful. The use of zip-ties to keep the spring compressed while reinstalling was especially helpful. I initially tried to use cheap Walmart zip-ties but they wouldn't hold. I found heavy duty ones at Lowes rated at 75lb. tinsel strength that did the trick. I also found it helpful to loop the ties completely around the spring (end to end). It gave more compression and made it easier to get the spring in place.
