Thanks for letting me know about the window channel bracket, too. It's a two part piece and the bottom part of mine had somehow pulled the head of that bolt all the way through the door jamb and was banging around inside the door. I fixed that first and used a big washer when putting it back together. As far as the latch assembly, all 3 bolts were super tight and I needed to heat them up before I could loosen them. To fix the damaged door jamb metal where the bolt holes were I used an old license plate as reinforcement (thin sheet metal). I measured where the holes and slot should be, and drilled 5 holes into my homemade reinforcement plate (3 for bolts, 1 for allen nut, and one for the slot stop). Using a round file I filed out the holes to exactly match holes on the latch assembly. Then using tin snips I trimmed away excess sheet metal and cut out the rest of the slot. File down sharp edges and corners. The 3 bolts are too short to accommodate a washer between the bolt and the new sheet metal. I used a big flat screwdriver to slightly pry apart the 4 colored plastic locks to unhook the 4 metal rods. Spent 6 hours, most of which was spent dealing with overtightened bolts and fabricating the sheet metal. Saved $400!

Hey Mr. Mechanic... on my 1996 2500 there is a “port” just slightly above the latch. When I noticed it the job was a breeze. I was about ready to drive the truck over a cliff after trying to access everything the way you did. I had been using 4 letter words for the better part of an hour.... after the port discovery I was done in 5 minutes.

So my key fob does not work to lock or unlock my driver truck door and has been kike that for years, now my key will not let me unlock the door and i have to go through tge passenger door to unlock from inside. Would this be the part i need to resolve the key lock issue?
