It's not necessary to remove the riveted panel. There's an access panel for the latch underneath the latch. It's the trapezoid shaped plastic piece held in place by four screws. Once you remove the screws holding the latch in place, you can lower it to the access hole and disconnect the rods. Then turn the latch so that you can angle one side out and then the other.

Any advice if the door is stuck closed, door panel is removed and everything is visibly connected and moves when you pull the handle? Latch is literally stuck shut and we can't get the passenger door to open.

I wish you could show how to get the lock rods in...at the handle and latch..they are a bitch to do😖

make sure you have new spare clips that hold the rod from back of the lock, there cheap and in packs of 10 only a few bucks, most GM cars around the era had these clips. well worth it, if the handle or lock has been out before chances are the clip is no good due to its age alone and being off and on they are a mongrel if they break or ware out. i wanted to see how he got the rod from the inside handle to the latch off and what clips may break doing that one. If the hinge pins need replacing do the handles, locks, latches and pind all in one go DOORS OFF. steve in Australia

You didn't show hooking up the lock rod to the exterior handle. That part is a SOB. I've tried all day and still haven't got it done.

@@wildestcowboy2668 Spray wd40 leave for couple hours. Spray again unlock and lock couple times, and open handle and push.

Hope you got it done, I'm a certified body technician & the reality is real these are a pain, getting the lock rod snapped especially, Goodluck jus did mines in 2 hours, these older vehicles engineering did not favor those who planned on taking everything a part

I spent hours changing mine and every rod is hooked up and nothing works. It's an old beater truck 91 gmc don't care about looks so I cut a hole just above the door latch to get to the outside door rods and drilled a big hole on the side of the door to get to the inside door rod clip.

Idk if the s15 is all that different everything looks the same. I got the rods off but now I can't get the latch itself out. The window rail is in the way

This such a pain in ass job! I have take my door completely apart twice and still can not get this crap to work! Such a crappy design!
