Chris what about a video on how to protect your sideview from being stolen. I know of a lot of case where the mirror itself was stolen not the housing. I saw a company that sells very nice looking protector that cover the border of the mirror so that you cant pull them out but they cost 200 dollars. I really liked this kill switch video. This is gold. My dad used to do this to his cars by using the cigarette lighter. The car wouldn't start unless the cigarette lighter was pushed in. The thing I like about the fuel pump method is that the thief doesn't know for sure if there's a kill switch - there could just be something else wrong with the car. And the repeated attempts at turning it over make a lot of noise, which is when they get introduced to your baseball bat.
@badboyz6584 Жыл бұрын
Sounds like a perfect introduction! Also, put a big sock over your baseball bat, that way, if someone grabs it, they just grab the sock.

Cars are good to have sometimes , but they can also be more trouble than they're worth , when things go bad . And without doubt , they are almost certainly guaranteed to do that eventually . Sometimes it's not even the car's fault . It might be what someone else has done , that gets you involved in their problems , in some unforeseen way . Have you ever thought why those new car ads show empty roads , on a bright and sunny day , with happy smiling people , without a care in the world . Because that's the dream , they're trying to sell you . But that's not real life . It's just make-believe . Save yourself a whole load of trouble , and let someone else do the worrying for you . And apart from anything else , you'll always have money in your pocket , doing that .

I worked at a Chevrolet dealer in the early 1990s. They sold an ignition cutoff switch system in “aftermarket” called Prolock. We must have sold hundreds of those a year. They cost near $1200. After a few weeks, I realized the complicated circuit board on an easy to remove key was only a switch. We would use a 180 bent paperclip To start cars when we didn’t have the proper key. When a customer didn’t buy the prolock, the service department would install the same chip without the handle for easy removal. These were so cheap, they were installed in every car but only a % bought them. However, clever people would not buy it and then acquire the key to replace with the dummy circuit board. Car dealerships can be such a scam! Thanks for the tip Chris, I need to do this in all my cars

As a professional auto mechanic, I got to see several different "kill switch" installations but the most ingenius theft prevention did NOT include an aftermarket switch of any kind. It was NOT a kill switch but a START PREVENTION system. The owner had the starter relay connected to the HIGH BEAM side of the dimmer switch so the only time the starter would engage was when the HIGH BEAMS were turned on! If done properly, I would challenge ANYONE to find out why the car would NOT start!

I find a good habit to get into when adding switches is to use one male and one female connector on the switch leg wires. That way, if your switch goes bad and your stuck without tools, you can just unplug the switch and plug those wires directly to each other. Also, I would avoid using a style of wire loom or wire color that is blaringly different from stock appearance. Run those wires tightly against stock looms when possible. Hide em! Personally I like to have a bit of fun with my kill switches. Its an opportunity to get creative. My last one, I installed a 3 legged switch. One hot for pump in, one for pump out. The third leg, when switch is armed, redirects power to the horn. Someone trys to hotwire the car and they blast the horn instead. Probably won't stick around to figure it out after that.

I fitted one of these years ago on a non-injected car and wired the switch into the low tension side of the coil. I didn't hide the switch, I bought a heated rear window switch from Ford and put it in one of the switch blanks on the dashboard. AND IT WORKED!!!!!!! Someone broke into the car and smashed the ignition barrel, but they couldn't steal it. The switch was also much easier to reach being on the dash amongst the other switches.
@jacksagrafsky49363 жыл бұрын
That is a great idea. Most cars, if you don't have a LOADED accessory package will have blank knock outs that could be used for the on-off kill switch. Just get a switch that doesn't do anything, but go from ON to OFF from a dealer so it matches the others. Ya just have to be more devious then the thief, but, more creative.

You can still win. GPS welded into the frame with 1/4" steel plate and a separate battery that is charged by the main battery. GPS receivers draw very little power and you can easily run it for over a month even after they chopped the car. Show up with extra keys and buddies, take it in broad daylight as you can prove ownership and nobody else can. This avoids fighting for your car and the theif would have to identify themselves to stop you. A siren welded into the frame on an "always on" circuit, that activates permanently once a certain wire is unplugged. Any random wire will do, try to pick one on a valuable part that can be split where it isn't seen. Nobody ever chops a frame, and this makes it so they have to cut the frame (extremely loud) to make it stop. They'll dump the car ASAP or run My dad's Austin mini got chopped in his work parking lot while he was working. A loud noise would have saved his car and given him a chance to see how many people fit in the trunk :P

I worked on a valet lot once, and a customer had a "switch" on his car to prevent theft. It was not a classic car by any means, but the theft potential in his neighborhood necessitated the installation. His right rear door had to be open to start the car. Not just ajar, but open. So I'm not sure how that was accomplished. I don't know if the latch was the "switch," or possibly the dome light being activated (but only from the right rear door). Because most dome lights in older cars will stay on if a door is ajar. There was some sophistication that went into this design. Not the handiest idea but a thief couldn't just jump in and go. Chris, if you have any ideas, I'd love to hear them. Love your vids man!

Great video...old school guys like me been doing the samething for years so car thieves know about kill switches. I suggest running more than one switch in 2 different places. One stays on all the time unless you plan on leaving your car for a long period of time. Put the secondary switch close to the driver seat and the primary switch under the hood or in the trunk. Leave the primary switch on all the time and the secondary switched off or on. If you gotta leave your car then switch off the primary and secondary switch

@@chrisfix I'm not sure that a finger print scanner would be wise, simply because if the thieves were dedicated enough, or properly prepared, they could lift your prints from the vehicle

Lol. In eastern Europe (balkans) only manual cars you can find. Here if you have automatic then you are some rich guy😂 for me automatic is shit. There is no felling when you press the clutch, shift gear and put engine to blockade with high rpm xD

The S200 story just broke my heart too. I can imagine how it would feel. Saving for such a long time, the sacrifices and effort. Plus finding the right car and then having it taken. Hope he managed to bring it back on the roads and enjoy it as he always wished!

Hard work and dedication will get you whatever you need in life maybe not everything you want but definitely everything you need I wenn from having nothing at 28 years old to owning my own house and 3 vehicles 7 years later. Yes it is possible but it is hard but that's why they call it work!
