I really appreciated a professionally made video with such detail , Kudos to you bud, again thank you so much!!!!!!.( repair done on 2007 BMW 328ix)NOTE: for this model and year steps are insert key,press start button ONCE , Turn heater and dials to hot, and press gas pedal 12 seconds. then the pump comes on

Amazing video dude! The best on youtube for waterpump + thermostat. One thing to mention about the hoses with the C shaped clip, that clip can stay in while you push the hose onto the fitting. It will make a satisfying click and you know it's secure.

Thanks for the video! This was the most helpful one out there on water pump / thermostat replacement! You did a great job of getting the camera into an area where, frankly, it's hard to see much even in person with all the hoses jammed in there. Be prepared to buy some new tools, and leave yourself extra time. It's definitely a doable job for anyone as long as you are patient and don't try to force anything. Probably saves about a thousand dollars vs dealer prices, and you get the satisfaction of completing a challenge when it's all back together. I put the front end of jack stands and did most of it on my back.

Almost done fixing my fiance's 2007. Also doing this on my back but got some ramps for my front tires to sit on instead of using a jack/jacks. Also doing her spark plugs as the car would shiver when stopped at red lights. Most forums suggest that replacing sparks will fix this. Fingers crossed!

Great video. This makes me less worried about doing this job in the near future. I find it funny that when it comes to some BMW parts, we replace the entire water pump and not the old rubber hoses. It's just infuriating to me that rubber hoses outlast the water pump. A water pump designed like it is, should last at least 150k.

If this car was mine i would also make the interior headliner black (and all the handles and plastics) and would fit a 335i style exhaust (with the bumber). Man i love the color of your car. It s fabulos!. Your entire car is like my dream car. Looking to change my 2005 118d to one like yours. Fantastic job! Great pictures and step by step narrative and tools etc... I have a z3 2002 3.0 also and a n51 2011 328i xi so I am studying the cooling system refreshing heavily as it is about that time. I noticed you did not replace the coolant resevoir, or cap or bleed screw... I see a lot of paranoia and people replacing radiators, fans, etc... every 60k. Is this overkill to you? Maybe if I tracked the car I would think okay, but after owning a couple 328i Msports 2010 and 2011 and approx 110000 miles each, with no really hard driving in western NC climates, no problems... Is it more or a climate oriented question? I mean plastic or not, BMW is certainly cranking out better parts than say my Buick Lesabre T type that ate 3 water pumps by the time it rolled to 100k miles. Replace that sucker with a boxster and never looked back. Loyal to BMW now and loving em. Looking forward to more of your knowledge. Keep it real!

Had water pump and thermostat replaced in my X5 diesel, by BMW dealership, as a good friend who was dealer principal for many years suggested that as my vehicle has 178,000 on the clock he suggested that replacement would be good preventative maintenance as they give out without warning, being as we are about to tow a caravan away I took his advice. Don’t need to be stranded in middle of know where. My concern however, is parts plus labour came to $1253.40, Parts were $570.79. 3 hours labour $519.12, which is $173/hour Is this a bit over the top for a charge out rate, even for an older BMW . Be interested in your feed back.

@@InlineSixAuto Thanks for that info. I appreciate it very much. It really is tight in there as I just took another look (with a small mirror). I am debating about just letting my mechanic do it. It's pretty tedious (and a pain) trying to do it in my driveway with the car on ramps. A friend did replace the hose going from the intake manifold to the thermostat (as we thought that was the leak) and I was trying to see if the hose was seated all the way on the thermostat, using a mirror. but, it's really hard to see whats going on looking into a mirror. There's also a very specific ISTA process for initializing the new water pump, beyond the bleeding procedure. You need to be very careful when handling the new water pump as premature failure will occur.

I just ordered my kit from FCP. Was that 1 gallon it came with enough after you diluted it? Or did you have to use more? Asking so I can order more before it gets here.

Oh yeah I did have to use more so you should probably order more.

It can but it's extremely difficult to get to the screws to loosen the hose clamps. Just to save the headache, it's easier doing the way he did it. Trust me I tried. Unless you have some certain tools.

When I installed everything and wanted to electronically bleed the system once I hit the start button the lights started flicking everything went crazy so I unplugged the battery. Could it be the battery?
@InlineSixAuto

Did you reconnect the battery and try pushing the start button once just to see if the electronics still work and function normally?

@@InlineSixAuto yes as soon as I connect the battery again, the clicking noise starts and emergency lights flicker. Could it be that my battery is dead? I am gonna place a charger on it

That could be a dead battery. Had the car been doing anything unusual electronically before you even did the replacement of the water pump?

Great video!! I have a Z4 with 51K on it, I have been thinking of replacing the water pump/thermostat on it. I was under the impression that they failed at about 60K but I'm seeing comments where people haven't replace them at or about 100K. How long do they really last? Thanks!!
@InlineSixAuto
@InlineSixAuto 3 жыл бұрын
There’s really no way to tell when it will fail. The range is pretty huge for the mileage that they fail. Some say they fail as early as 60k but others say it last till as long as 120k. The one I replaced in this video was actually still working at 112k miles but I just decided to replaced instead of waiting and it possibly failing while driving. I’d say if you’re passed 100k miles you should replace if it hasn’t failed yet. I think yours still has a pretty significant amount of miles left before it fails.

@@snoopyfix2 200k has got to be some kind of record. where i live is pretty easy to find yourself in the middle of nowhere. I got the new pump and thermostat, got under the car to do the job only to find out it had already been done. I'd like to know what the story is with that.
