Normally when the handle does not open from the outside, you will have to replace the outside handle. There are some small clips that break that hold the rod to the handle itself.

There could be a rod that has become loose or has come off of the key lock cylinder or outer door handle inside of the door. You may want to remove the door panel to see if this is what had happened and reconnect it.

Thank you guys. This helped a lot. I have a 2002 Ford Focus ZX3. The only thing I had to do differently was find one of your videos on how to remove manual window crank. Turned out I didn't have to replace any parts, but I just had to use some WD-40 to loosen the spring that was on the opening mechanism on the handle side. Yet again, THANK YOU!

You may want to look to the side or in the bottom of the door to see if the rod that helps to pop the door open has fallen off.

It should be the same process the only difference there should be is removing the window crank. There's a small clip on the backside of the window crank that keeps it attached to the regulator post. Hope this helps you out. have a great day. 1aauto.com 888-844-3393

This was perfect for me to get to the handle. The problem was the metal bracket, or grey cast metal piece, that the handle actually moves to open the door. Don't know where Ford went wrong with these door handles. People have trouble getting into all four door of my car because of that and I'm figuring I'll have another broken piece soon. Good vid though.

Unfortunately if the vehicle is in an accident and the handle is not working, it is a safety issue as you can get stuck in the vehicle if it is in a front end collision that disconnects the battery to roll the window down.

Excellent video! I need to replace the foot that is actuated by the handle. It's attached to the opening mechanism, which requires removal to get the part. The tang broke off and is impossible to repair within the door. Any ideas?

The video shows taking the handle off and putting it back on. Great. My handle does not open the door. When taking the panel off per the video (thanks for that), I see that my handle is not attached to the cable to open the door. The video doesn't give any info of exactly how the handle functions to open the door. I found a rubber piece in the door, but I don't know if it is supposed to attach to the wire or not.

My 2007 Focus is doing the same thing; cannot open from outside, but can inside. My mechanic said it may just need a new reinforcer or a whole new handle. My garage quoted me betw $140 (if just the reinforcer) to $180 (new handle) with labor charges...after watching this, I can see why I wouldnt want to do it myself, LOL

I have a 2003 ford focus...every outside door handle is now broken. I really think ford should have had a recall on this. It is a safety issue. They started to break after owning it for three years. Now all four doors cannot be opened from the outside amazing. Other wise I like the car. I purchased it brand new and then gave it to my son when it was six years old

I think I have the same problem as g7h9o9s7t - I got a replacement door handle because the original stopped catching the latch, but when I opened up the door, there wasn't anything connecting the handle to the part that pulls the latch, and the original handle didn't appear broken. please help someone, my passenger door on my 2002 zx3( same model as shown here) wont open from the inside OR outside. I want to do the job myself but it seems impossible without opening the door, which as I said won't work. I was considering drilling a hole through the inside frame to get to the lock mechanism. I don't mind hacing a fist sized hole as long as the door works. any thoughts?

actually 954Ryn it is a safety issue..all the door handles do not work. Hence if the vehicle is in an accident and immediate access is necessary to vacate an occupant who is immobilized and say because the vehicle is on fore a rescuer could not get the door open.. BUT I guess you did not consoder that. So it is a SAFETY issue and thus FORD should have had a recall.

The locks on the ford focus are the worst part of the whole car!! Passenger side back seat wont open from inside and now the drivers side door wont open from the outside lol. Was hoping to see what the mechanism inside the door panel is supposed to look like or how to repair it since this seems to be a common problem. Guess I'll just rip into it and hope for the best.
