Great video, just one question, any reason u did not use copper grease on the pads and where pads brackets sit? You cleanes the place where they sit but didnt lube it
@JunkyardJunkie
@JunkyardJunkie 4 ай бұрын
Because where I’m located no one ever greases them. If you are up north or where it snows or anything like that then defaintly add it. Hope this helps. Thanks for watching!

Not sure if you mentioned it already, I saw you re-grease the bottom slide pin, but did you also remove and re-lube the top slide pin?

Yes I did, always lube up both. I showed the bottom and then said do the same for the top. Thanks for watching!

Why disconect battery? For a brake job?
@JunkyardJunkie
@JunkyardJunkie Жыл бұрын
For safety. With these cars if you accidentally “wake” the car while you have the caliper off, it will push the caliper piston out. Hope this helps. Thanks for watching!

I'm wondering if I have symptoms of warped rotors -- at high speed downhill, when I apply the brakes moderately, the car vibrates quite a bit. If they're warped, then should I just buy new rotors?
@JunkyardJunkie

I personally would. But it’s just preference if you’d rather have them turned. Hope this helps! Thanks for watching!

I’m facing the same issue! My 17 Prius is vibrating very bad when going downhill or high speed braking. Were you able to get rid of that? And how?

So you just ordered new pads and the anti-rattle clips to get this done, correct?
@JunkyardJunkie
@JunkyardJunkie Жыл бұрын
The new pad will come with the new clips. But yes, that and something to retract the caliper you will be good to go. Hope this helps. Thanks for watching!

How many miles did u have on it? I have a '19 gen 4 & jst got inspected. Only has 12,000 miles & 6 or 7 "fair". I've read gen1's changed at 100,000! Some havent changed at ALL yet. 🤔
@JunkyardJunkie

It had I believe 140ish but, these brakes last forever. 100k is normal.

Do top and bottom caliper guide pin need to be greased up? because my right side top is stiff and will hardly move but on my left side top and bottom guide pins are loose and greased up ?
@JunkyardJunkie
@JunkyardJunkie Жыл бұрын
Yes top and bottom need to be lubed up. If it’s stiff in there it’ll lead to abnormal brake wear. Just pull it out clean it up then lube it up and you’ll be good again. Hope this helps. Thanks for watching!

Can I ask what is the reason for disconnecting the battery to change brake pads thanks
@JunkyardJunkie
@JunkyardJunkie Жыл бұрын
Because these cars if you get the key to close or hit a botton it can engage the caliper if that happens while you have the caliper open the piston can/will slide out. This is a expensive fix. So, I would defiantly just follow the procedure. Hope this helps! Thanks for watching!

I bought some pads for my car , but they dont have wear indicator is not normal ?
@JunkyardJunkie
@JunkyardJunkie Жыл бұрын
Usually you’ll have a small bag with hardwear or at least two of the pads have the wear indicators. I have had brakes that didn’t come with any and they’ll work fine. But, you have to keep a eye on them. Because instead of squeaking when it’s time to it won’t. That means it will eventually go straight to grinding if your not careful. Which will lead to you having to change rotors too. Hope this info helps. Thanks for watching!
@bloodymirgoku

@JunkyardJunkie thank you for the reply, yes has some hardware only I'll just change rotors and pads again after 1year .
@JunkyardJunkie
@JunkyardJunkie Жыл бұрын
If you keep a eye on it when they start getting low, change the pads again and you won’t have to change the rotors. Best of luck!

@@JunkyardJunkie Thank you. I really got screwed by the pads I bought. Bought some Car quest premium pads but as I put it all together and then prepared the new pad with silicone, the the piston/pad guard shims didn’t fit the new pads? I’ve always used them on other vehicles but maybe folks don’t use them anymore? I stopped what I was doing, put it all back and will look a fool later. Is that a thing these days or did somehow I get the wrong pad? I tried bending the shim arms but no cigar. Wouldn’t fit and would have made a hell of a rattle. Hopefully I didn’t call you out about the lube as I had watched some other vids along the way. Cheers and thanks for a great video.

Do discs need to be machined? If so how often or when does it apply?
@JunkyardJunkie
@JunkyardJunkie 2 жыл бұрын
The rotors will need to be inspected to see if they should be machined down or replaced. A quick way to see is to take some calipers and measure it in a few different spots and see what the differences are. But if you see no signs of wear and do not have any symptoms I wouldn’t worry to much about it.
