Your video saved my butt at the last minute. Got a 2014 Dodge Charger R/T that I tried to get an alignment on, and couldn't get one because the front lower ball joint control arms were both worn out. I did this job after I got back from Big O tires, where I took it in the first place. Would have cost me $520.99 for both with alignment. This video saved me close to $300. Thanks!

Had the same problem when replacing the tie rod ends. Ended up using a BFH and brute force but I got it to work. This car is amazing, and I love that it's based off of the E-class Mercedes... Chrysler just did a terrible job on the suspension parts (and the cheap interior lol), but thenagain, you can't expect much from a $40k car. Both the control arms, tie rod ends + bushings need replacement around the 100k miles mark.
@CHx4Dinner5 жыл бұрын
Same here.. I ended up using a ball joint separator in combination with a pickle fork and a hammer and when it finally broke free it shot out with a lot of force! Your comment definitely helped give me some confidence that it would come out eventually.
@pkranz9376 жыл бұрын
One extremely important note - after installation, these tension struts *must* be tightened at *Ride Height Only*, to avoid preload on the bushings. The same is also true for the rearward control arms.

I agree that you need a video for the lower ball joint. The lower ball joint is a huge pain, and there seems to be no easy way to get it off. Is this why 1A AutoParts has not taken this task on in one of their videos yet?
@1AAuto7 жыл бұрын
+Dylan Finger It's easier to replace the control arm with the ball joint already pressed in. Here is a link to the control arm that we carry shown in this video. Hope this helps you out. www.1aauto.com/control-arm-with-ball-joint/i/1aslf00164?KZbin&CTA+Comment&GnBXK_zA

Yes I agree with Dylan Finger, I was thinking of replacing the whole steering knuckle with the ball joint already pressed in, left and right but that part alone would be to costly. I am in favor of looking for a video on the front lower ball joint. Just did the upper left and right control arm today. I've seen guys attempt to take out the lower ball joints but was a no go, then drill it out or use heat to free it, then press it out. Love the video : ) 1 AAuto please do one soon, especially on how to free up a stubborn ball joint that won't budge.

Knowing that 99% of people watching this would be using a jack and jack stands and have to use the weight of the vehicle to torque the nut at the end, you didn’t think to demonstrate how it’s done?
@samtripoli80752 жыл бұрын
Jack the car up on both sides and turn the wheel to open up the area you'll be working on. When done, slide ramps under the wheels, lower the car down onto them, and finish tightening the bolts. This is what I am going to do.... I have to fix this tomorrow. My car just out of nowhere started making this rattling noise as I came home today. Really disappointing.

Thanks for the video, however I bought a upper and lower forward control arm kit. I replaced the upper control arm and when I went to install the lower, I noticed that shipping sent me three uppers and one lower, so I had to go and spend another 75.00 at auto parts store. Buying kits maybe cheaper, but it's not the best way. I also ordered a front end kit for 81 ford f100, one tie rod didn't fit, again, another 30 bucks from auto parts store. I will buy parts from 1aautoparts, but not kits. how do i correct your mistake?

Is there such a thing as a strut tension, or radius arm? at pep boys they said I needed to replace it, as well as the control arms, in order to get an alignment, but I can't anything called strut tension, nor radius arm.
@1AAuto7 жыл бұрын
+El Trillo They might be referring to the upper strut mount. I would see if you can get a description of what the part is. Yes, a radius arm is part of the suspension and is really the only way you would call it.
