Dorman 905-500 Front Upper Shock Mount Insulator Compatible with Select Models, 2 Pack. This is the original shock bushing that was in my Silverado and my Express Van. It has a metal center that fits inside the top bushing. Dorman 905-499 Front Upper Shock Mount Insulator Compatible with Select Models, 2 Pack. This is the original top bushing. I didn't get any bushings when I bought AC Delco's therefore I had to look it up. And the Bilstein's came with the bushings you used. These cost more but they are the same as the OEM !

So helpful found out that my 2007 Chevrolet Silverado classic 4.8 has some parts from a 2006 Chevrolet Silverado classic 4.8. Guess it was made in 2006 and put 2007 on it So Everytime I would search for struts assembly it would only show the shocks but not the coil assembly. My truck only has 1 mounting nut but on other 2007 they have 3 mounting nuts.

Nice video! How did you torque the top nut and how did you keep the stud from turning??? A regular torque wrench and socket is going to cover up the top of stud and it doesn't look like enough clearance on bottom side to grab that shaft with vice grips...so how did you do it, or did you not lol...also, need to know the position of tires/suspension when torquing top and bottom???? This must be a 2 wheel drive...my 4wd has a clevis bracket at bottom and torque on that bolt (1) is 59flbs and 21mm socket. My top is 15mm and 15flbs. Thanx for any input from anyone...

Is it a worth while expense? I wonder if the reason my truck feels all sloppy is because the springs are shot, that is softer than new? On the back end I’d like some air assist shocks, or shocks with a coil over spring.

Excellent! Will changing the shocks affect alignment? Thanks.
@DantheFixitMan

It is recommended to get an alignment anytime you change suspension parts, or anything that can change the ride height... I didn’t get one on this truck after changing the shocks. Thanks for watching!

Ok so i have a probably dumb question for other viewers but an important one for me. When tightening the nut on the top of the shock, should the truck have wheel on thr ground or off the ground? I tightened the nut while truck was off the ground and when i put the wheels back on and lowered the truck i can spin the tip washer and bushing. Now the truck is wobbly when i drive over 50mph
@TJCinhansed
@TJCinhansed 3 жыл бұрын
It might have just compressed the lower bushing so just tighten it while it’s on the ground

What I would like to get the answer to is do you tighten the top shock nut with the suspension jacked as high as it goes, or letting it go as low as it goes or with tires on? That's 3 different ways you're gonna get 15ft/lbs...or just till the bushing mushrooms
@renesanchez53

You drop it down and then tighten it.

So on my Chevy Silverado it has a real rough ride and you can hear the suspension kinda like creek or whatever you wanna call it when I hit bumps, so what should I change or look at first?

I need help replacing the spring. What is the safest way and I guess the right way? Is it just taking off the lower ball joint and then slowly letting the Jack down to where the spring unloads itself? If I do that is it just the same way in reverse to put the new spring in?
@getsudatensho

Go to autozone and rent the spring compressor so they wont jump out as you remove them

My new shock doesn’t have the bottom mounts . Do I take out the bushing and insert the old mount ? Any help is appreciated !
@DantheFixitMan
@DantheFixitMan 4 жыл бұрын
Hi Rene, Thanks for watching! It may be possible to press out the old bottom bushing, or maybe it’s a split style bushing and mount, but I am not sure how difficult that might be to remove from the old shock. Sorry, I wish I had a better answer for you, but mine came with the new lower bushing already installed. Best of luck with it! -Dan the Fix it Man
@renesanchez53
@renesanchez53 4 жыл бұрын
Dan the Fix it Man my old mounts had a bar pin for the bottom mount. That’s what I meant. I just want to know if it’s safe to push out the new bushing and install this bar pin instead
@DantheFixitMan
@DantheFixitMan 4 жыл бұрын
@@renesanchez53 Got it. I think it would be ok to change it, but I guess it would depend on how easy the bar pin comes out of the old rubber bushing. If the new shock came with a metal sleeve inside the rubber bushing, and you're trying to just press that out and put in the bar pin, that might work... I don't have the truck anymore, and it's kind of hard without seeing it. I tried searching a few videos, but can't find anything definitive on that.

Good lord put some wood behind the rear wheels so the truck doesn't come off the jack stands. At least put the parking break on. I literally jumped when the truck moved when you pumped the jack. Please be careful even if you have the wheels attached...
@Thatguy-fq3pr
@Thatguy-fq3pr 3 жыл бұрын
the jack is designed to move that way tho?
@andrewshepherd8147
@andrewshepherd8147 2 жыл бұрын
You sound dumb, if the Jack didn’t roll while it’s being pumped up it would slip off the subframe. If you notice the rear wheels aren’t moving.
