Glad your links removed pretty easy. I tried pickle fork and heat. Had to remove bar,cut links off then press out bolts ! I went ahead and replaced stabilizer and grease boots on tie rods. . Thanks for video, cause i have to reassemble all.

Thanks for showing an average guy repair. Changed my broken sway bar mount yesterday, and without your advice of tapping swaybar down to hold the ball joint, I'd still be on my driveway trying to figure out how to get it to stop spinning.

Great video! I just bought a 1997 Wrangler TJ. When I took it for a test ride it seemed to have a bit of wobble in the front of the car. It will def need some TLC but was wondering if you thought some side to side wiggle at about 15 mph is the sway bar, air in tires of the bushings or another area on the front of the car

Sway bar links and bushings are common replacement. You can swap the tires front to back and test drive to see if the issue follows the tires. However, in many cases a wobble may be caused by worn control arm bushings. I already have the parts to do mine front and back both. Plan on sharing that video soon.

About to do this along with tie rod ends, drag links, steering stabilizer, etc. Should I do these sway bar links before or after or does it matter?

Shouldn’t make a difference. Should be a good project though.

If you can move the sway bar a little bit from side to side would I need to replace my bushings?
@FreeAutoMechanic
@FreeAutoMechanic 2 жыл бұрын
Only if the bushings are worn out. Easy enough to take apart and look. But if there is any significant movement I would replace them.

My say bar moves side to side to much pressing the drivers side link against the frame. Brand new bushings, but I will look at them. However, I ordered lock collars to minimize the issue. Have you any knowledge about lock collars on a sway bar?
@FreeAutoMechanic
@FreeAutoMechanic 2 жыл бұрын
Locking Collars amzn.to/3RLzadu Look like they might have a positive effect but can say I have not seen or heard of anyone using them for this purpose. That being said. I see they are available for sale in several places. Most of them call the collars "Sway Bar Clamps" That I found. Look like they would work. Let us know how it turns out. Thanks for sharing.

@@FreeAutoMechanic thank you. I had them shipped from rough country. I put them on and went for a short drive and all is well. Will take the dog out for a longer one today. Handles better, at least it feels like it. It still feels like a bandaid on a bigger issue, which could be my axle not being properly centered. Recently had a new heavier duty track bar installed. The guy who did my alignment swears up and down the geometry is correct. Alignment isn't something I can do in my driveway. Another variable is my tires are as bald as my head. They have life in them considering I seldom commute in the Jeep other than I'm snow storms where my Jetta can't handle. Other than that it's a toy for adventures and getting me up into the wilderness. I will get a second set of eyes on that track bar. Could be vibrations from tires. Could be I need to adjust the length of my links now that my track bar has a bracket. Could be a new sway bar. I seem to be replacing every little thing that still has a Chrysler logo on it this year being it's 22nd year of existence. You got one I don't need to explain. I do have the luxury of contacting the previous owner, who is an asset since the build is his vision. But he wants to buy it back. Happy Jeeping. I will try to keep you updated for the viewers. I won't be putting new tires on until about a half year from now. After that I do have my eyes set on one of those Currie sway bars that go in the bump antishock or something like that. They look amazing. I will probably do that rather than upgrading links. Until then I stack the chips to do it.

@@FreeAutoMechanic so far it's working like a charm. I was able to gobon an adventure and pretty much forgot about the walking sway bar. No grinding links or anything. I will spend hopefully have the sway bar itself replaced come Spring.

Thanks for the video. It was very helpful. I'm probably too anal but while you have the parts apart it would be helpful in the future to take the time to wire brush of the rusty bolt threads and apply a bit of anti-seize.
