It certainly is frustrating to have to dig so deep to access those darn injectors. I'm doing it right now. Glad I watched this video previously, so I at least have 6 new manifold sealing gaskets ready. Good to have since the shop manual doesn't tell you that the manifold really needs to come out... it says to disconnect the fuel line and shifter cables, and somehow wiggle the whole injector gallery out. Good luck with that, the manifold is in the way. When I get frustrated with the tedium of it, I simply take five, and listen to the audio with the playback speed slowed down to 50%. It's hysterical!

@@HelpMeDIY Hello from Spain. Thanks for your videos, they are a big help for DIY guys. I managed to change all 6 injectors on my 08 2.7 Cayman without taking out the manifolds. I didn't take out the fuel rails, popped the injectors out from their seats and found that there is enough room to move the rail to get injectors out one by one and install new ones one by one. It was a tight and tricky job, but it is possible. The biggest problem was if 2 of the old injectors came out without upper seals, to get the old seals out when the fuel rail is practically in place needs a bit of thinking and testing different tools. The job took me about 4 hours. No special tools needed, you just have to be creative and patient. Had no problems with the car, did it just as preventive service with coils, sparks pugs AOS, after all the engine runs much smoother than before.

Here's a tip. The left hand most forward manifold bolt is very difficult to remove. Even worse is getting it back in. First I used a little grabber to start the bolt in the manifold flange. Figured a magnet (as in the video) might fall off and the screw disappear for a while. The main problem is just no room to get a socket wrench socket and extension down there. I switched to 1/4" extension but my E10 socket is for a 3/8" drive. So I used an 8mm socket and it worked! I used electrical tape to help hold the two extensions together as well as a little around the extension and the socket. Things falling off down out of site isn't fun. Easy as could be after that.

Nice video, I have watched it a couple of times now. Leaving this week to pick up my 2012 Cayman S out of state. I made a commitment to myself (and Mrs CaymanWI) that I would do as much of the maintenance myself to keep TCoO as low as possible. I will be subscribing to your channel to get even more in depth videos to help me along the way. Thanks.....

Hello Mate from England. This is really interesting for me as my ‘S’ is with DW Performance over here as we speak. I’ve been having smoke on start up and a misfire on cylinder 4. They just rang to say they’re changing the injector. It’s not a plug, nor coil pack. I have no tools nor ability to carry out the job as you did but fascinating to watch, whilst I check my bank account to ensure I can cover 7 hours of labour😉. Subscribed to find out what else I won’t be able to do. Many thanks. D🇬🇧

Brilliant video, Ill definately sign up to patreon, Im trying to change the injectors on y 1999 986 at the moment, the right hand side fuel rail came off eventually without removing the intake but the laft hand side is proving impossible. The 986 has the air filter box on that side which needs to come off to get at the injector connectors but there's a bolt at the bottom that is impossible to see or feel. I think that manifild at least will need to come off

@@HelpMeDIYI think its an issue with many specialist cars, I used to own a Lotus Elite many years ago and one of the dealers produces a characature of the ideal Lotus mechanic. He had a small body/head with one eye protuding from the top on a long stalk and the first and second fingers on each hand were about a foot long. The funny thing was that I could instantly see where those attributes would come in handy😄

I just did the same on my 98 986 and it was a struggle but I found the last bottom bolt from underneat the car (air box has 3 bolts). You need to loosen the inlet manifoild as well to get out the airbox. I just cleaned and tested the injectors with carb clean and a 9V battery. Running well afterwards 😊

Wow!! Just did my fuel injectors on my 997.1 Last weekend. It was running really rough, I got a CEL, and my Foxwell said it was misfiring on cylinder 3. So today I swapped that injector from Cylinder 3 to cylinder 1 to see if it would follow it, nope. Car ran rough, CEL. Cleared it and took it for a short drive. As soon as the car got up to temp, got another CEL, P2195, O2 sensor lean bank 1, misfire on 3 and 4 and misfire on multiple cylinders. I was thinking vacuum leak as well. Car ran rough the whole time, especially in lower RPMs. Also, did you do a vehicle handover after changing your injectors? I was told I should do that.
@HelpMeDIY
@HelpMeDIY Жыл бұрын
+K1dPhresh1 I did not. I did that after a battery drained all the way down a few months ago though. You had noticed a few things not working anymore. Nothing that would throw codes though.

Hi Aaron(?). Nice video. Super helpful as always! I am deciding whether I should start the job on my 2005 Boxster. There has been a constant little tapping noise which becomes really annoying. With a stethoscope, I believe it comes from the injectors. Do you mind elaborating on why i might want to change the injectors even it they may be alright ?
@HelpMeDIY
@HelpMeDIY 8 ай бұрын
+@bon_1900 thanks! Noise could be your lifters failing. I wouldn’t change injectors if they were alright, but Jake Raby recommended to me to replace them as a maintenance item because they can start leaking

What is the cable/tube, whatever, at 5:52 and where does it attach? In fact there's two of them....? EDIT: I see a bit more about it later on in the video I currently have the 3 left side injectors out (without removing the intake), but reversing that to put new ones in looks more difficult than this video, so out comes the intake. Actually, the difficulty is that two of the 3 fuel-rail 0-rings stayed inside the rail cups. I managed to get one out, but can't even get a pick in the other one as there just isn't any room. Besides, removing the intake will allow me to clean up the engine a bit. Also, the older Boxster (and maybe Cayman) seem to have the fuel rails that only mount with 2 bolts and don't have those long brackets, so they are probably the ones people are changing without removing the manifolds.

This is exactly what my intake looked like when my AOS failed. I replaced it with a Euros AOS and that broke a week later. I highly recommend the slightly more expensive genuine Porsche part for the AOS replacement. After that my AOS was good for over a year now.
