Do I have to take the gas tank off? I don't have the right equipment to hold it while I take off the old straps.

If you get the tank to near empty you can lift it by hand. You can just use a floor jack to hold it up in there. You cannot remove or install the straps with the tank install.

@@cherliebravo9044 I got to install the straps with the tank still on. I had one strap rust off and I put a new strap on the one that was rusted and put a new one on the one that wasn’t. You just gotta flex the metal strap a bit while flexing the metal heat shield on the tank itself to reach the bolt with the strap bolt hole. My truck was a 1999 ram 1500 but it looks the same as the Dakota
