Man, thanks a lot!! I was about to drive 65 miles to my closest HD shop to get help getting the pump and float out of my Road King gas tank. Then I found your video and 2 minutes later I had it out! That trick with the spring loaded release saved my bacon! Everything else was downhill from there!

My HD Deluxe, Softail 2007 stalls out when I am going 80mps. I have to restart my bike in mid Los Angeles traffic on the freeway. When I am existing the freeway it turns off. You mentioned this during your video. It is the Injector. I will need to change the Injector Filter and Fuel filter at the same time. Thank you. Plz Plz cover the tank. FYI! The mechanic (I stopping going to him) charged me $150.00 said he was blah blah blah. Said it was going to be another $250.00 to keep trying to fix the problem. Your video answered the problem. Thank you!! again cover the tank please. Your killing me. I was biting my nails.

Thanks for posting this!! I fixed my bike....just needed to replace the check valve. Had no idea how! Got the parts and looked at how to change the fuel filter an...viola! You rock!!
@Jazzhog13 жыл бұрын
Basically to release the pressure in the fuel rail which is connected to the fuel line you must pull the fuel pump fuse from the fuse block. Then you hit the starter on the bike. While the engine is cranking the fuel rail will release the pressure in the line. Then you can remove the quick connect at the bottom of the fuel tank. A Harley service manual will walk you through the procedure quite nicely.

Jazz Hog could you also just disconnect your fuel pump harness under the seat?

Thank you for making and uploading this video, helped me out big time! Check out my photoslide of my fuel filter change out. Had a major stuttering problem, I think once I change the spark plug wires I will be good as well as the new fuel filter. I blew out the old filter with a water hose and brown sand substance came out. Great video, thank you again!

Thanks for the video I watched it a few times before doing my Fatboy. Your video gave me confidence to do it myself however, I would suggest a couple things like boiling hot water, pour into a cup and dip the tip of the new hoses in the cup this will make getting them on much easier. if you don't have a tool to get the clamps off use a small screw in the middle of the clamp, that will open the clamp without any damage to the part. Thanks Again!

The harley paint is more durable than you think. When I stripped the tank of my '07 Dyna for major dent repair, the thickness of clear coat was incredible. It's more durable than you think.

Hey guys what I found that makes it so much easier to pull the unit out is to remove the one torx screw that holds the float assembly to the unit. You will then be able to lift it right out.

It worked. I got the whole thing out to replace fuel line.

Number one: With all of that Manipulating going on,it answers the question as to why the fuel gauges aren't very accurate on Harley Davidson Motorcycles from the factory. Number two:if you're going to change the lower hose,why not just cut it below the clamp and cut down on some of that Manipulating? Number three: pretty informative video.........

Look at the way this guy beats the shit out of the tank while working on getting the hose off. Using the correct tool would have help a lot! Damn, I'm glad your not my mechanic.

Is it absolutely necessary to drain the fuel? I feel like it wouldn't matter but some of these videos say to drain the fuel first. Whats the worst that could happen if I leave the fuel in the tank?
@Watchyn_Yarwood9 жыл бұрын
Peace Not if you want gas all over the place. Besides, it's safer and easier not worrying about spilling gas out and when you change the lower line, which is a MUST, you have to drain the tank.
@dck5105109 жыл бұрын
I ended up waiting till I was low on gas. A little fuel squirted out from being under pressure but not enough to make a mess.
@Watchyn_Yarwood9 жыл бұрын
I did the same but I still drained the tank. I had less than a gallon to drain plus I changed out the hose from the filter to the disconnect. It gave me the opportunity to wipe down the inside of the tank with paper shop towels and make sure no crud had accumulated over the past 13 years. Just a little peace of mind cause I do mostly distance riding.

No. The heart of the bike is the engine that was designed by American ingenuity,in case you're unfamiliar with the history of Harley-Davidson. :)

Dammit! Now my other biker friends seen your post and said I can't ride with them anymore because "Vic" said I'm not a "real" biker! Jesus Vic! You are the "true" authority of who is or isn't a biker! Could you write a book or instruction manual? "How to be a biker" or "Bikers for Dummies"??? by Vic the KZbin troll?
@BikerBry11 жыл бұрын
Ya, tell that to my Uncle when he scratched my front fender and had to buy me a new one. I'm well aware of the durability of paint and I don't like mine scratched up, not even surface scratches... It dulls the finish and is a bitch to get out.

No Way - You only cut one side of crimp bulb - now you have something to grab onto - vs zero, cutting the crimp zone completely off - creating lost chit flying. The difference between 45 yrs vs 45 min.

For some of us not quite so skilled, you should be WAY MORE CLEAR what you are pushing on and are you pushing in, up, down to get the swingarm to release???? slow down and show a better pic and a whole lot better explanation........Thank you

kenny clower Yeah, I had a little trouble here myself. Then I watched the video about three times and finally saw where he was pressing with the screwdriver. If you look at the black part of the support bracket that goes down to the fuel pump, you'll see where it meets a metal piece. Press at that joint with a screwdriver and it will pop loose.
