If your key is stuck in your ignition cylinder or you cannot turn the key, you can attempt the following: 1) Wiggle/play with the shifter to ensure it is in park (or try to put it in park and neutral and back again with your foot on the brake -- if this is possible), and perhaps this can free up the ignition cylinder. 2) Wiggle the steering wheel side to side while trying to move/turn the key. 3) Spray some lubricant into the ignition cylinder. 4) If these steps don't work, you can attempt some form of brute force (though you may inadvertently make the situation worse), search Google for other means, or contact a mechanic. ***If anyone has this issue and resolves it or has a different method, please reply to this comment so others can learn from your experience.

Great video because you explained it so simply and paced it well. THANKS! Was able to do this repair no problem. ***IF YOUR KEY IS STUCK AND CAN'T TURN TO ACC*** as mine was , I squirted several generous blasts of WD 40, tapped on the end of the key and other places while trying to turn it to loosen the pins: After about ten minutes, and after my youngest belted out a prayer in Jesus name for the thing to move, we got it moved. 2009 Sonata folks, there is an extra screw you have to detach and to get to it you have to pull out more of the left SIDE panel (the one pulled out initially.) Thanks again for the great video! Saved me 100's!

Yay!!! I did it... Someone tried to steal my 2011 Hyundai Accent about a month ago. I ordered a replacement ignition lock cylinder (with keys) via Walmart for $31, and it arrived in less than a week. The hardest part was wiggling my old key into the acc position, so I could remove the vandalized part. Aside from the delivery time and my apprehensive procrastination, the actual replacement took less than 30 minutes.

I'm helping a family member replace his worn out cylinder. The issue is that the key often just won't turn. My question is how can we remove the old cylinder if the key won't turn to acc/start to depress the pin?

My 2014 Accent ignition switch was vandalized by thieves. I am trying to depress the the little button to release the cylinder but it's not letting go. Does it have to be in ACC mode in order for this to work?? Unfortunately, they damaged it so badly there is no way to do this.
@ELITEkickBOXER Жыл бұрын
I can't believe someone would do that. That's terrible. The ACC mode is the only position (that I am aware of) where that button can be depressed (due to the shape/engineering of the part). As I'm not a mechanic, you might want to consult a mechanic (at least for guidance on what to do). Is the cylinder stuck in a position that is not ACC?

@ELITEkickBOXER6 ай бұрын
Most likely one of two things: battery problem or alternator problem. Battery: poor connection at terminals and bad battery. I would disconnect both ends of the battery, clean the terminals and reconnect them ensuring they are on tight and you can't pull them off by hand. For the battery and alternator, you can bring it to a local advance auto store and they should be able to check both for you. As helpful as it is, i have some bad experience with that in the past in that their equipment/"method" was poor and was saying the alternator was bad when it wasn't. Though you can go to multiple places for confirmation if you'd like. If it's neither the battery nor alternator, you may need to have a mechanic look into it. Or look in the engine bay for anything abnormal (strange colors on battery terminals, wires with bare copper exposed, etc) You can also purchase this tool yourself: amzn.to/4cDEV7i It allows you to test the battery/alternator and you have it for life. Plus it's pretty easy to use and is on sale $20 off as of this comment.

I'm not sure. But look at the website (in the description) and see if you can find the replacement part. Before you order it, see if you can remove the panel/access the ignition switch on your car. If you can, I think you know the answer to your question.

Ok what if you have lost the old set of keys so you cant turn the ignition .how do you get it out?
@ELITEkickBOXER9 ай бұрын
I'm gonna presume you have a few options: 1) bring it to a locksmith so they can turn it for you (or youtube it and see if it's something you can do with a lock picking set. 2) bring it to a dealer/mechanic. 3) see (google/youtube) if there is some type of universal key that can enable you to turn it. 4) use some type of brute force/cut off something that holds the switch in place (though i don't recommend this option). 5) i presume no spare keys or anything?

does the new key open the car doors too? also how to change the keyfob
@ELITEkickBOXER9 ай бұрын
The new key will be cut different than the one you have, so you will need two keys, an unfortunate caveat. The key fob, or any key fob not connected to your car, needs to be synced/programmed to your specific vehicle. There should be some basic steps in other videos/youtube/car repair manuals

What if the ignition is in the lock position
@henrypaulsen23036 ай бұрын
So what you’re saying is the ignition has to work in order to take it out??? What if when I put the key in it just moves freely, no positions to click into.
@ELITEkickBOXER6 ай бұрын
If the ignition is stuck and can't move, which does seem to occur for many people, my guidance ends there as I am not knowledgeable enough to answer that. If it moves free but does not click, as seems to be the case with you, I would think (though I could be wrong) that that would not be a problem. I say this because turning the key and putting it in a certain position allows a pin to be depressed (as shown in the video) and it can only occur if the key is in a certain position. I wouldn't think it matters if the key "clicks in position " only that in CAN go in the position noted in the video. Though if you attempt this, I am curious to know if that is the case.

@ELITEkickBOXER Жыл бұрын
What car and year is it? Honestly, I don't know. I would look for the switch on the 1aauto website and inspect the pictures. You can compare it to the one in the video and go from there. If it's similar or appears the same perhaps it shouldn't be too far off. Maybe the paneling might be slightly differently shaped, but look around to see how it attaches compared to the one i showed
