In case anyone needs it he was right about the torque range. According to Haynes it is 56-75 ft. lbs for both inner and outer tie rods.

Excellent! Brother I could follow n understand all your doing. I too have to do ball joints but I'm no mechanic. I actually think I may pull this off! Thanks! Will be looking for other videos you make. I can learn from a "normal" guy much easier. Great job friend.

Lmao in my head I was imagining you saying something like "I don't know the torque specs off the top of my head but you just gotta snug'em down good and you'll be fine" and then boom you started talking about not knowing the torque specs and it was amazing.

Mine snapped on the inner end, this morning (fairly scary). I'm no mechanic, but I can definitely handle this. This video was perfect. Thanks, man. 🍻

Thanks for the video, really helped. Looked like a tough job on my rusty 2001 f150 and I only had the inner and outer replacement rods. After watching this, I bought new adjusting connectors and replaced the whole thing like you did and matched up the lengths. Alignment seems exactly the same but I'll take it to a shop anyway to make sure. Also, I didn't have the joint tool but Autozone loans them out for free so I didn't spend the $20 for that piece I'll never use again. Cheers!

I like your idea replacing it as a unit. I might do the same thing.
@figibloom7 жыл бұрын
It worked out pretty well for the most part. I still took my truck in to get an alignment afterwards and it was off just a hair, but I recently replaced a bunch of parts that needed it. I suggest getting an alignment or at least get it checked after doing this type of repair. Well thanks for watching and thanks for the comment. Have a good day.

AJ Pierce I'm about to do the lower ball joints. My tie rods seem okay but one boot is cracked and they are original anyway. I like to take advantage of having things apart and doing as much as I can at once. Getting a little older and it's harder to get down than it used to be. "Is there anything else I can do while I'm down here?" is what I always say lol Then it will be time for the alignment like you said. After that on to a rear axle seal that's started leaking a little bit. Mines a 98 and this is all original stuff so I can't complain.
@figibloom7 жыл бұрын
I guess just do a good visual inspection and if you see something wrong fix it while you are in there. That is kinda what I did I had a bad ball joint, and I just decided if I am doing one I am going to do both ball joints while I am in there. So I popped out the lower ball joint and I changed out my upper control arm and ball joint. Then I did my tie rods, and went and got an alignment. Oh and I bought new tires. That was the main reason I wanted to fix up my front end and get it perfect.

after replacing those inner and outer tie rods are they suppose to twist back and forth by hand? on my truck both sides I can twist the the inner and outer as a whole by hand.. I dont know if that is normal or not. There is no other play except by twisting..

What was the reason for replacing them I have a lot of play in my tires and steering wheel is this a reason it could do that
@jasondrick26485 жыл бұрын
Yep play in your steering wheel means worn tie rods.
@loganking93775 жыл бұрын
If your tires and your steering wheel have play, it is either ball joints or worn tie rods.

Was there not a plastic boot protecting the inner tie rod portion?
@figibloom7 жыл бұрын
I cant remember for sure, but I dont believe there was a plastic boot protecting the inner tie rod. I personally have only seen the inner plastic tie rod boots on rack and pinion style steering systems, which this truck was not. You can google different types of steering systems to see what I am talking about. Anyway I hope this info helps you out. Thanks for watching and thanks for the comment. Have a good day.

I just smack them with a hammer to pop them out. I had some pickle forks proved useless on both ends. No puller so I just whacked them with a hammer and they popped loose. By hammer though I mean a large 2lb ball peen hammer.
