Thank you for the video. It saved me money by allowing me to change the burnt out bulb over the speedometer by myself. Took less than an hour and cost about $9 for 4 Sylvania 194 bulbs at Walmart. I did have to disconnect the clip that held the wires for the clock switch and that little bulb light for the ignition. But it slid off and slid back on at reassemble with no problem. But by disconnecting this wire clip it did allow me to take the dash cover completely off. I had to disconnect this wire clip because when it was still connected I could not tilt the dash cover enough to get at the back of the instrument cluster. This was for a 1998 Sienna.

Thanks for the video! I replaced 7 burned-out bulbs. The 1998 Toyota Sienna dash has a dozen or so little bulbs (Sylvania 2721) and four larger bulbs (Sylvania 194). I ordered some so-called 2721-equivalent LED bulbs from ebay advertised as working for the 1998 Sienna, but they wouldn't fit through the circuit board holes--so avoid the SMT LEDs if you go that route. The 194 bulbs that the Sienna comes with are covered with a green cap to color their light. These caps don't come off the old bulbs very easily, so you should plan on getting green caps for your new bulbs, ordering bulbs with the caps on, ordering green LED 194-type bulbs, or do without the caps (which isn't as pretty, but acceptable for use).

This video is great for the 98 - 00 sienna models. But the 01 - 03 sienna models have a two piece dash trim instead of a one piece. But everything else in the video works (very useful, thanks). I wished I took the time to read some of the "Comments" and would have saw Mr. Joe Rodriguez's post about the (2) hidden screws. It would of saved me some time trying to get it out as a one piece. I watched the video again and saw that my dash was not like his. Luckily I did not break it. My wife's sienna is a 2001 CE and it just hit 205k miles. Just now replacing some of the instrument cluster bulbs. My cluster does not have the RPM gauge so it only needed (2) #194 bulbs. I reused the green bulb covers for the new bulbs. I saw somewhere else that the other size bulb needed was a #74 which will not go into the bulb socket. So I will need to pick up several #2721 bulbs. There is around 25 of this sized bulb. There is one more bulb that is not a #194 or a #2721 and it is for the "Low Fuel" light. I do not know what size it is because I did not replace it. We bought the van brand new from the dealership and it has so far survived raising four boys.

I used #168 bulbs for my 2002 Sienna's dashboard's larger lights I think that they are brighter than the #194. Also the #168 bulbs are used for the license plate lights. This means, that you can take out the #168 bulbs, which are still working i your dashboard, and the save them for your license plate lights, which are much easier to replace.

Eugene Wong did the green bulb cover fit onto the #168 bulb? Was it a similar process to the video? Where did u get the bulbs? Would appreciate it if you reply.

Thanks very this excellent video. I had to replace all of the 4 bulbs that light up the entire instrument panel. (green cover over the bulbs). I ended up buying #193 bulbs without the green cover. AutoZone had none (green cover) in stock so I installed without. Actually nice and bright effect.

On any car, whenever you have the cluster open due to a bulb burned out, always consider whether it's worth it to just go ahead and replace the other bulbs. The bulbs are cheap and usually you can't buy just one.

on a 2003 Sienna the shroud around the speedometer and center console is two pieces. I took a black bezel off around the speedo with two screws then two hidden screws are visible. One more screw left of the steering column,two behind the square radio bezel. So there are seven screws and a bunch of clips. This gets you access to the speedometer and the heater control for your build replacement needs.

Thank you, really appreciate the steps and clear video you made!!
The repair manual for this vintage Toyota Sienna has you remove the steering wheel shrouds and pull the steering wheel in order to get at the bulbs, not something I thought worth all the trouble. Thanks to your method I just may give it a try since I have several lights that are burnt out. I may just replace all of the bulbs so that I do not have to go in there ever again. Thanks for your video, very helpful.

@jims25074 жыл бұрын
I think there is a screw, either in the cup holder, or the handle you hold to slide the door (or maybe both?). Once this is out, just use your plastic trim panel removal tool around the panel, and pop out the panel from all the plastic clips. I think you could watch a video on fixing the sliding door, they should show how this is done! It's been years since I had to do this.

Thanks for the video. Not exactly right for my model, but helpful. My comments are for the 2003 Sienna CE. That's the one with no tachometer and the blue-faced dash. FWIW, the Haynes manual [1998-2002 Sienna] only covers the older models. Fowlerweb is right about the 1998 model being different -- but I also think the CE is different from the higher-end models in later years. There are two Philips screws in front of the speedo to the left and the right that go straight up into the cover over the instrument cluster. Take out the screws. It was then possible -- without loosening any more screws -- different from what Fowlerweb described -- to pull the black 'bezel' away from the instruments and out of the dash. This contains the clock display and the left and center air vents, but NOT the radio. Again, not what is shown in the video for the older models. Warning: I fat-fingered the left air vent and had to puzzle the mechanism back together, not fun. The instrument cluster could be removed but it was futzy. The plastic above the steering column and ignition lock etc. had to be pushed down quite a bit -- not something I'd like to do in freezing temperatures. It's called thermoplastics for a reason. Installation was a little easier. A magnetic screwdriver helps in not losing the screws. My CE only has two bulbs as general dash illumination. I should have replaced the bulbs on the a warm day as soon as the first one failed instead of waiting for everything to go completely dark. Be advised that the 2721 bulb -- at least in the CE model -- has a green rubber hood over it. It resembles a popular latex product. Roll it up and reuse it. It's OK in this case ;). Again, thanks for the video. Dunno that I would have tackles the job without the encouragement.

Well done! How did you know where the clips were located on that top plastic part & how to remove them without damaging them? The reason that I ask is that I removed the lens covers gently from the map lights & both of them snapped off plastic nubs that hold it in place--which ruined them so that they would not stay in place after reinstalling them.

I have taken apart enough car interiors to know what to watch out for. But there are situations where things can break (especially when the weather is very cold and the plastic is easier to break).

The green illumination bulb on the side by the temp and tach gauges is out on mine. I went to the junkyard to figure out how to take it apart before doing mine. Luckily I found a car that was partially disassembled or I likely would not have found those 3 Phillip's head screws on the bottom. I just took 3 bulbs out of the junkyard car cluster after I got it apart because they already have the green caps on them and they are factory oem. Its a little tricky. I've replaced a few clusters in the past, they didn't make it easy on the Sienna.

It stands to reason that the D-rive would go out first as that's one that burns most. Too bad there's really not a way to gauge that regarding the life of the others. So my thought would be to replace them all while the thing is off. I found this video because I have a 2002 Sienna and I lost my drive light and a portion of the light that covers my speedometer as well as the left side half of my heater/AC control panel. Do you happen to know if there's any special trick to getting behind that panel?

Sylvania 194 Big speedo/tach Phillips 168 Big speedo/tach These are competing makers. Sylvania Long Life 2721 LL 2/pack Small gear selected Phillips 74 Small gear selected The Sienna are old enough that you have to ask for these -- or use the river. Harvesting the 'Low' or '2' lamps is often wise. (2721LL) You don't need 'Low.' It's always the extreme bottom selection. The colored plastic wrappings around lamps do come off with mere finger fiddling. They go on quicker than off.

Toyota changed things after 2000. Read below. Getting the connectors to let-go will take more time than any other step. Be patient -- and bring a selection of screwdrivers and body tools. Shifting down to LOW will give you much more freedom. You'll also be tilting the steering wheel -- to suit. A trip to a you-strip-'em junkyard is a terrific idea -- you might even snag some 'green' sheathed bulbs. The greenies are re-usable -- but tender.

LEDs often have a different shape from the origin even when the bases are the same. For any lights that use a colored ‘condom’ it’s a definite problem.
@davidhimmelsbach5572 жыл бұрын
Toyota Sienna 2001-2003 are significantly different. There will be two (2) screws -- use a Phillips stubby -- that secure the black plastic molding -- and they are pointed UP -- right over the instrument display. Pull these first. Next, using a plastic body tool/ wrapped screw driver... ease out the black plastic instrument panel (trim) cover. Over at the right, it will incorporate air vents; so too at the left. Take you time. It will come. This sequence will expose 98% of the instrument panel. As in the video, loosen the three (3) magic screws so as to loosen the bigger trim -- PLUS -- the two (2) screws -- seen to the left and right of the wheel. Now, with a plastic body tool, wiggle this massive plastic item loose. You will NOT have to back-off the e-connectors. Loosy-goosie is enough. By now, the instrument panel will be sufficiently released -- as it's only held in by two (2) Phillips screws (same as the others) at its top. Get it loose, and flip it over -- w/o releasing its e-connectors, either. Lamps/bulbs are now easy-peasie to R&R. You'll be SHOCKED as to how fast this all goes. Be easy with the green bulb 'condoms' as they are tender... though reusuable.
