I kept seeing fresh oil drops under my jeep thinking it was motor oil until I realized it was further back then the motor, took a closer look and seems like I need a new output seal. Thanks for the help. Informative video

I would remove the rear housing and replace the seal and the bushing inside the housing. Complete job done and no more leaks !

Thanks for the video, where did you get seal or what brand is it?

I purchased it from Rockauto.com Check them out they should have one for you.

when you mentioned a socket or something to hammer the seal in, you want it to be inside the rim or does it have to be on the outside lip?
@HomeOwnerRepair4 жыл бұрын
It should be somewhat flush as shown in the video.

Inside the rim is preferred and doesn't hurt anything. I think grabbed a 1.75" one from AutoZone and banged it in perfectly.

Great job. So, it has been a couple years- is that seal still holding?

No nicks, it’s a pretty good amount of fluid leaking out. I pulled the transfer case to inspect it better.

I have an np231 and the slip yoke broke on the output, can I just pull on the broken yoke and it should slide out?
@HomeOwnerRepair5 жыл бұрын
Depending on how it broke it may just slide out

I’ve replaced seal twice and there is still a leak. Any idea of what it might be?
@HomeOwnerRepair5 жыл бұрын
You may want to check for a nick in the case where the seal presses in. If there is a nick or gouge it might leak a little.
