PLEASE make sure you CHECK if your old key-fob has a chip inside the remote - "tiny little black piece", IF you have it make sure you switch it to your NEW key-fob, Not all key fobs have it, so check and switch it if you have it!

Very nice video as I've watched a few. However you failed to disclose that some fobs (depending on the Country you're in) have a chip in the lower corner that you may have to transfer to your new fob, or your ignition won't start. So remember to check your make and model people, so you know if you have to also get the chip out also. You might also want to keep your Kia emblem from the old fob, so get a drop of super glue and just remove the old one with a tiny screwdriver and transfer it over.

This worked perfectly and was a lot simpler than other methods! Took me 5 minutes for 2 keys, saved me a ton of money.

I can’t get it open with pliers. What am I doing wrong?

I have a used 2013 Kia Soul I recently purchased. I attempted to open the fob with needle-nose pliers and wasn't able to. Felt like I applied enough force to break a pair of handcuffs. Couldn't get it.

One minor addition: The circuit board has notches that fit into slots on the other half of the shell, which makes it MUCH easier to properly align before clicking everything into place.

The spring in the key fob has already fallen on the floor and I didn’t even know it has a spring. After watching your video, I realized there’s a spring and I had to search for it. Then I fix the battery and the key fob!!!!’ THANK YOU
@franortiz-eg6xi
I understand you are explaining it but it is driving me nuts when you keep saying why your video is better. ✌🏼

Followed this and was easy. Just remember to move the black digital bit under the white cap. Or key won't work

Worked perfect for my Kia Soul. I put the needle nose plyers in the hole but could not get it to pop open. Tried several times. Then I used slip ring plyers and POP, it opened. So instead of pulling the needle nose apart, the slip ring plyers are backwards and you squeeze them to spread apart. But now my key-fob is brand new! I even replaced the CR3032 battery since I already had it open. Thank you so much! Ron in Oklahoma.

I watched a bunch of videos but it wasn’t until watching this one that everything “clicked” and I felt confident enough to start. It all came together perfectly and much more easily than I thought was possible.

I'm so glad this showed up as my first search result because it saved me a lot of trouble.

Perhaps the best walkthrough video on youtube. I could listen to more of this guy's critiques

Amazing video! My own fault that I wasn’t lining the long piece of the spring up correctly to the outer casing, but I quickly overcame it.

Thank you, thank you for the step-by-step video! You saved me lots of money!

Fantastic how-to video !! You are correct when you talk about all the music and nonsense in most how-to videos, while they don't explain all the details about what they're doing, very unprofessional. Thank you for your clear, concise and most importantly, detailed explanation of the task, and why certain things are important and other things are not.

Thanks you so much ❤❤

Hi there! Thank you so much for helping me with this setup. I did notice that the key section of the fob has actual alignments for the internals so you don't have to fidget the key internals to keep them in the middle, which made putting it together super simple. (You can see the seating on

Great thanks for the instructions and as noted by everyone else don't forget the chip in the top corner. It's in the top corner behind the circuit board.
