Heres a trick. Buy some IPG double stick tape. Peel the old splinter guard off. Remove the glue with acetone. Wipe the old splinter guard with alcohol. And re apply your old splinter guard about 1/8 off the edge of the rabbet on the track so you can make use of the same splinter guard again. If you take the time to clean with acetone, the IPG double stick tape keeps it on there just fine. I found out this trick last night when I was replacing mine, after I had already bought a makita splinter guard replacement. I figured I'd save that splinter guard and make use of the old on again.

Warm the old glue up with a hair dryer or similar and it just rolls off by rubbing it with your finger or a scraper......

Doesn't work

I used a heat gun on the old strip - heating up each 4 inch section before peeling it back. I had zero glue residue left on the track using this approach.

Andy! This worked perfectly! It took 5 minutes to quickly, cleanly and easily remove the residue! A hairdryer and my thumb was all it took. Thank you for sharing your method! God bless ya, guy!

Hope you have a good ventilation system . Breathing fumes off acetone will make you an old man very quickly.

Touching the track after cleaning it would put your natural oil on the surface

The makita strip is much better it actually grips

great job. another guy showed he reused the strip but what he did was use a Fastcap double sided tape instead of reactivate the tape like you did. Not sure if he had a follow up video on how long it lasted.

Using fastcap tape was my original plan. But I’m happy to report that it has been about 6 weeks since I did this and it has held up well. And I did this right before building a full kitchen cabinet package

Any chance you can tell me how wide the Festool splinter guard is before it's cut?
