This procedure is pain in the butt. I've done it myself. I admire your patience. This and the classic 50 are great sounding amps. Even when made in such a cheap and commercial way, they're worth the effort. Thanks for the video mate!

I'm having an issue with my Peavey Classic 20 EL84s with a bit of an arc/spark and occasional "snap" sound now and then. Found that the sockets are pretty loose compared to the 12AX7 sockets. Appreciate ya!

Hi Terry, thanks for the video. This is something that is waiting for me somewhere in the future... last time i changed the tubes of my C30, one power-tube came out with broken pin-clamp, (or how you call it). Fortunately it was clamp number 1, if i remember correctly... but anyway it was the clamp that is not in use. So i wait when i have to change the tubes next time...

Great shout out to the Tube Depot! .... I get my amp parts from them & best part is they are right here in Memphis. In fact I just ordered & received some back up 6AQ5's for my Firestone Air Chief guitar amp & my suitcase amp (BOTH D-Lab creations)

Thank You for your insight Terry, Just had to perform the same surgery on a Classic 30. Runaway negative bias. (intermittent of course) Those sockets are awesome!

Good video Terry. Interesting that they changed the position of the key on some of them - you would think from a design perspective it would be easier to key the keys all in one direction. Great tips on this, thank you- Regards, Ron

Do you have any video of you replacing the small discs or traces on a amps board? Technique, tools, etc.? I have never seen such a video and would like to know. Thanks

I've been playing using the classic 50 for about 20 years. I have 3 of them. Two of them are the 2-12 version and 1 a 4-10. My main amp is the 2-12 with Blue Marvel speakers. The other two are for recording and getting different sounds with different guitars, PROBLEM; we are a rock band and play pretty loud; volume around 7.5. After about an hour of hard playing the amp is more distorted, seems to lose some volume. After a short break, right back to the incredible sound these amps deliver. YES, fan is working. Any thoughts? And thank you, Joel

D-Lab, I'm a big fan of your videos and enjoy the knowledge transfer your provide. I am a subscriber and will continue to view your chanel. I do have a question regarding some of your suggestions in this video. You said that once metal flexes and gets put back into position, micro fractures occur. Yet when you installed the new sockets, you bent the pins and flexed them into a position to fit the pcb holes. So my question is, did you in essence, just do what you told us not to do at the beginning and introduce micro fractures into the new sockets? Thanks and I look forward to your response.

I was wondering about that exact same thing. My guess is that since the metal is new, bending it this one time won't cause any damage.

I wonder what genius that it was a good idea to design a PCB like that. What temperature do you recommend to run the iron at for PCB work?

Thanks. I've got 2 of those great sounding amps down. Thankfully the third a classic 50 still works well... your videos make it seem easy ... your skill level at detail work is amazing. Do you by any chance have a list of the capacitors that need to be changed on the classic 30 amps?

Piece of cake did 100s used to work for an Authorized Peavey repair center. Actually I designed an overdrive circuit back in 2005 for Hartley he always treated me well. A good guy. Sadly his stepson took over and Peavey is pretty well made in China.

I just picked up a Peavey Encore 65 at the pawn shop... figuring it needed service... Boy was I wrong.... it needed nothing more than a bath and a pot cleaning. I posted it on my channel... Do you get amps THAT filthy?

Hi Terry, seven tuber, was this a 6BQ5er? I used to like Peavey, but now, not so sure. Have you done any Traynors? I'd like to see the innerds of one of them someday. I never got my paws on one, but they were popular in the 70s. Don

hi, have you worked on any Paul Reed Smith SE amps? I have a SE 50 watt combo, I just replaced all pre amp and el34 power tubes. however, when biasing, left port reads fine, right port has no reading, I took the chassis out to directly probe the socket and still no reading. I ordered new sockets and screen resistors, but I'm a noob. any suggestions or help please.. I did call PRS with very little help from their tech. thanks

Hello, I am not familiar with those amps. Are the tubes switchable, In other words, able to run 1 or 2? If so, maybe the mode switch is defective? Are both output tubes lighting up?
@thomaspartin191
@thomaspartin191 7 жыл бұрын
D-lab Electronics all tubes light up like normal, I did switch el34 side for side, theirs only 2 , with same results, I did a very thorough visual inspection to see if any caps or resistors may have popped and everything looked good and clean. I know it's hard to try and help diagnose a problem without seeing or doing tests on components. 🤔

Check both tubes, pin 8 to ground. What is the resistance? They should have a current shunt, may be 1-10 ohms
