Construction adhesive works amazing behind loose plaster. Use the adhesive, then apply those holders until the adhesive dries, then remove the holders. It will last another 30 to 50 years.

NOTED! I couldn't get anything to bite into the wood lath! It was old and thin.

Thanks for the video wondering how you insulated. I’m doing the same thing and tore all the slats off. Then I vapour barrierd and Drywalled.

I love your presentation. I will tell you, though (and my husband does the same thing....lol😊), that it's kind of hard to watch. Try setting your camera on a tripod across the room and keep it still while you show things. Please do make another video. You have good advice!

@@Zacpactv you need togo bolts for lathe and plaster , or to catch the wood strapping but I think there's certain types of screws you need that stay , maybe self tappers , we took our lathe and plaster away and put gyproc up , that's the info im looking for ,

@@smallfeet4581 I tried plaster repair washers but the lath was to weak and thin. Screws didn’t want to bite.

@@Zacpactv yes I don't know why they suggest them , I put a shelf up and had to use Togo bolts and then fill in the hole I had to make to get the bolts in and between the wooden straps , what a carry on , other houses have brick walls , trust mine to be lathe and plaster , my neighbour stripped his outer walls and put gyproc on , the wood is usually strong enough but as you say it's not thick enough to hold a screw the only thing is you have to drill into the outer brick with long screws but you need Rawl plugs and to get to the brick which you cant get into to do , l&p is not the best way to build a house imo

@@Zacpactv the only other thing you could try is glue on the screw if the wood is attached to the stud but just thin , you would need to keep pressure on it for a while tho , if the wood is not secure on the stud then it's a bigger job of repairing wood slats and redoing plaster at that bit

So you would keep those old wood planks and put dry wall over ? I have old wood plank ceilings that I want to get rid of because there are so many gaps but I was thinking to cut them out and remove it but also thinking I would need to them nail the drywall to support it
@Jakegraham627 ай бұрын
You want to screw your drywall in the the studs and runners
@Zacpactv3 ай бұрын
I feel as if its totally your call as a homeowner, way out the goods vs bad. Will removing the wood create a gap? If doing a whole room it can turn into a big project real fast. My first home had 1/2 thick tongue and grove. I definitely left it because it was support in my eyes and retain more heat. Yes, you want to screw into the ceiling joist but i saw way more advantages in keeping my old planks. Time is money sometimes or unnecessary work?

Dude, do all your intended viewers a favor. Stop moving the camera so much. It makes it hard to follow and kind of defeats the purpose of your explanation. Also, do yourself a favor and rip out that wood lath, remove the baseboard trim, insulate the wall, then use 1/2 inch drywall. I’ve done a ton of these jobs and speak from experience!
@Zacpactv Жыл бұрын
I was probably buzzing on some energy drinks that would explain the circling. I like your thought process. This was an old house the problem you run into is the studs were not true and the lath was all shimmed. If i threw drywall on this i would of had to shim it. Way more work than necessary IMO. The whole house was this way but most plaster was sound about 85%. The house was insulated before siding install, and I would highly recommend that in any home without insulation in the wall cavity! this house had alot of wood layers as well it was very insulated. also the trim would of been a mess to salvage/ match so it stayed 😅. Thanks for watching and feedback.
