Your a life saver! My o ring was flat as a pancake and the pump was whining. A new one , bleed the system by turning wheel left to right, all was fixed!! Under $20 bucks! Shop wanted 1400 bucks for a new rack and pump installed

MB guide says to bleed excess air, following the reservoir replacement, with the engine off. Go side to side 20x (may be easier with front end / tires elevated) with cap off. This AVOIDS pushing air further into steering rack ! Then top off reservoir & start engine, check for leaks & test drive.

Is Prestone European best power steering fluid for the ml320? They also have a synthetic fluid, green bottlecap.

Hi was your part expensive? I'm in New zealand I'm being told anything between 1400 and 2500 to fix just the pump if it is indeed just a pump...how do I know if it's a resovoir pump?

what type of power steering fluid did you put in?
@psalm2forliberty5773 жыл бұрын
You can use Mopar Chrysler spec ATF+4 (full syn ATF) its from the 'DamlierChrysler' era when these rigs were built. Same for 722.6xx Benz Tranny. Im a heavy DIY MB tech & use it in all my MB power steering / hydro suspension / Tranny applications. This fluid is made by all major lubricant mfrs inc SynTech at WM & Oreilly has gallons too. $$$ saving tip for ya !

Is there anyway to tell if isn't the pump or the reservoir. I hate to spend on a pump if it is just the reservoir.

Hey! Out of curiosity - I followed these instructions pretty much to a "T" - the power steering worked (and sounded) great for 2 days - then on day 3, no power steering. It came back slowly (after driving for 5-10 minutes) but now feels weak. The pump sounds fine, however (no whining). Any thoughts?

I have a 2001 Mercedes ml320 that's hard to turn, I suspect it is the steering rack and pinion that needs to be replaced? I'm not sure, what do you think? I haven't checked it out or anything.

Not many replys that's not helpful I have a ml320 99 and my steering sounds terrible it's hard to turn I've been told it's the pump needs replacing I've also been told I'm looking at between 1200 and 2500 for a pump plus labour slightly less for a rebuild...I'm in New zealand I see on amazon these parts are really cheap...how do I know which way to go about this my truck drives mean as otherwise and has served me well. I can't trade in until I fix anyway. Any help would be great ????

Teresa RHagan I am in USA , just be sure you get a good after market pump otherwise you will replace it like myself in 6 months with another one, hopefully this time will last longer, if you purchase the part just find a decent shop , it’s 1 h job , the most.

@@witnessforthetruth9571 thanks. Turns out I just need a new power steering hose that runs from the rack to the cooler.. but oh boy took a lot of homework and trust in the right avenues to finally get a proper diagnosis. Lucky for me I didnt go ahead and assume it was a pump and book it in. I wanted to be sure I wasn't being duped. I'm a smart girl. Pump remakes are under $200 at a hydrolics specialists. "Winning"

@@MamaTeaTree i have the same year/model and my steering is sooooo loud! i was just quoted $1200 to replace both the pump and the reservoir. I had heard its usually something simple. i am crossing my fingers that i have the same problem as you. Where did you get the power steering hose? and how much did it cost? thanks.
