Thanks for this video. I lost my idler pulley earlier this week and had to replace it. This video helped me confirm my suspicions and quickly repair my vehicle. DIY definitely beats taking it to a shop when it's something simple like this. Thanks again guys!

I was struggling with replacing the drive belt for my 96 explorer and found your instruction video, as soon as I finished the video it only took me 5minutes! Started my engine and the Idler sheared off. I guess I should have checked my pulleys hahaha. Watching your video on replacing Idler. Got to get the old bolt out first. I will always check with your site before starting my next project! Thanks

@567dirt8910 If the belt squeals when you start the truck up, it should either be a bad belt on your Ford Explorer or a worn serpentine belt tensioner. I would inspect the ribbed side of the belt first for cracks. If it has a bunch of small cracks throughout the belt you should change it. If it's not cracked, more than likely the belt tensioner needs to be replaced. Hope this helps you out.
@1AAuto12 жыл бұрын
You may want to check the belt to see if it's worn or cracked. You may also want to check the belt tensioner to see if there's enough tension on the belt.

I think this will be my next move on my 03 sport trac. The "belt" or one of the pullys squeals bad in wet weather, Is this a sign of something particular??? I guess I'll just remove the belt and test the idler pully out and see what needs to be done. I'm sure I'm due for a new belt also. As always thanks for the videos - I love 'em.

Love your videos every time I need to do anything on my car I check your videos first. the idler pully look easy to do but I still watch this first and glad I did cause I didnt know about that lock washer on the back side. BTW I had to change a bad oil pressure sensor switch and I was surprised you didnt have a video on that because its a pretty common problem on Fords it was easy to do but very hard to figure out how to get at it. I know you would have had a trick or 2 to get it. thanks

You may be referring to the AC compressor pulley.
@1AAuto13 жыл бұрын
@journalwriter It sounds like you have v belts on your '94. Obviously you want to make sure you get the correct replacement and removing the belt probably involves loosening a pulley or component.
@1AAuto12 жыл бұрын
usually if a tensioner or idler pulley fails they'll wobble all over the place.
@1AAuto12 жыл бұрын
@surfndude44 There's not really any trick other than trying to narrow down what section of the motor the noise if coming from while it's running.
@1AAuto12 жыл бұрын
You may want to inspect the other pulleys to see if they're working correctly.

No reason to disconnect battery when doing this replacement...

@surfndude44 It wouldn't be a bad idea if it's the original one. If your truck also has the original water pump, you may want to replace that too while you're in there, and already have it off. Here's a link to our timing chain sets on the website if you would like to check them out. 1aauto.com/1A/TimingBelts/Ford/Explorer/-/-/2002?ATony
@1AAuto12 жыл бұрын
It may be the belt tensioner that's loosing some of it's tension. When you did the pump you had to lift up on the tensioner to release the tension on the belt. This may be what's causing the noise. I had this happen on a 92 Mustang when changing an alternator, If it is, we sell new serpentine belt tensioners with free shipping on our website 1aauto.com 888-844-3393

I have a 1997 Subaru outback legacy I recently noticed that the engine gets real loud when in isle than calms down for two minutes the gets loud again what does this mean?
@1AAuto11 жыл бұрын
You may want to see if you can pinpoint the source of the noise. Depending on the noise it could be anything from a bad pulley to an exhaust leak. Hope this helps you out. 1aauto.com 888-844-3393
