This has to be one of the best video'ed presentations I've ever seen on KZbin! The lighting is excellent, the camera is pointed and focused on the test. Narration matches the task and is free of nonsense.

Thank you, I just did my brake pads today and your video was extremely helpful in preparing for the project. Unfortunately I forgot I didn’t have a 21mm socket to remove the caliper bracket. I just cleaned up the bracket and removed the pins and cleaned and greased them. The pads took some fitting requiring some filing to fit properly. All in all it went well and again thank you for your help.

Great instructional video. Thanks to 1A auto now I know how to do my brakes which saves me time and money. I only have one issue with this video. I gotta have more cow bell!

thank you for showing how to remove the stuck slide pin, most places would have cut that part out but i feel that it is a fairly common occurrence. mine were seized to the point where i ended up replacing the bracket on the front.

great vid, two points, one be sure to clean the back of the rotor after installing as your fingers will leave grease and crud, two for the pins use panther piss, I use 50% acetone and 50% brake fluid mix and soak in that solution for about about 15 min, they should twist right out.

BEFORE i performed the work, i thought this video was awesome, a real godsend. now that i am getting into the work, it is full of holes. if you have NEVER done this before like me, trust me when i say skip the video, don't bother cuz you will end up very frustrated and stuck at home with an inoperable vehicle. invite one of your friends over that has done it before and learn from them. so many things i ran into that they don't cover, things you need to really pay attention to they just gloss over. this video is for a novice or intermediate mechanic, not a rookie or beginner.

They didnt cover releasing the parking brake shoes. You will need a long breaker bar for the big bolts. The rotor will come off easier if you heat it up. What else did you run into?

These discs are often so frozen, it take a whole dictionary of Daddy words to break them off. I ALWAYS put anti seize on the hub/disc contact area on install to avoid having to get a second edition of the Daddy words dictionary next time. BTW...air tools make the whole job faster and easier 😀

The whole time I was watching him beat the tire off with a hammer. I thought to myself. Obviously no one has ever applied anti seize to the wheel or the hub.? And when he reinstalled no anti-seize and I shook my head! Maybe there's only a few of us that know that trick. I loved your comment 🍻

Putting some anti seize heavily between tire rim and rotor can make sure they dont rust together.

Peak High Temperature Red Grease available at Pepboys works well if you put a thin film on the inside of the rotor and on the hub plate that has the lug bolts on it. I even thin it with mineral spirits and put a super thin film on the cooling holes and the edges of the rotors. It works great to prevent rust from creeping into the surface of the rotor.

Beautifully-made video and agree with the comments below on use of PPE and showing how to work through those "unexpected" issues. Demonstrates a professional approach. Is the caliper grease a specialized item or can good old wheel bearing grease work?
@getalongbenice62393 жыл бұрын
High temperature grease should be ok, Ford doesn't put it on the back of the anti squeal shims.

Kudos! I prefer to watch people like you who use PPE when showing people how to work on vehicles. I cringe when I see people doing a "How to" video using an impact gun without eye and ear protection or using an adjustable wrench backwards.

this will sound conceited but i come from an honest place. for some of this stuff, you're saving $95/hr, and you'll likely be doing the work again down the road, if these parts have been in the salt and grime for 5-10 years, why not just spend a little more money and by all new parts. i bough most of these parts new for around $400. money well spent in my humble opinion.

Great video. My slide pin is seized up. I banged and twisted but never got it out. I thought of using a torch but didn't. I may remove it again and try that. Thanks for the great video. Can a seized slide pin make the breaks not fully engage?
@culbyj36653 жыл бұрын
You need to free up that slide pin your gonna probly have to replace pads and possibly rotor again even tho u just did it. Once they are within millimeters out of whack on wear you screwed the pad up. Some will say it will wear even again but you may have already cause micro cracks within the pad that you cant see or notice. Theres a reason why its called a SLIDE PIN. The pads are now not sitting right. Ive had that issue before.

Same torque specs for a 2019 F250?
@mrjunkp70903 жыл бұрын
Yes, same. I have the Ford service procedure for Super Duty 2017 to 2021 and it states 55 ft lbs for caliper slide bolts and 203 ft lbs for the larger bolts that hold the bracket to the backing housing. I had my 2021 apart today and the factory does not put any grease on the noise shims that are on the pads. The Ford documentation also states: "NOTICE: Do not pry in the caliper sight hole to retract the pistons as this can damage the pistons and boots." If you can get a C Clamp in there it might be better...
@culbyj36653 жыл бұрын
at 8:30 no it will not help the pads slide better. How about you sell pads with new clips like what is required... Otherwise semi okay vid you guys fail to add cleaning slide pins which is basic amongst other things. customer be warned. Sure you can do it this way and itll work but its not factory spec. Its seized in there probably because you guys replaced it last time!!!!!

Awesome video except you guys make one huge mistake (IMHO). You NEVER force brake fluid back into the lines! That oil in the calipers is the dirtiest, most heat-cycled, water soaked garbage, and sending it back up into the system is a really bad idea. Crack the bleeder, force it out of the caliper, and top up and bleed. Thanks for showing this.
@getalongbenice62393 жыл бұрын
Heat cycled yes, but its a sealed system how dirty can it be? If its that dirty you can bleed the brakes after and get it out.
